Went Flying -Again
About three weeks ago i was searching for some documents when I came across my old pilots licence and logbook. The last time I flew was 50 years ago. I read through the nog book and memories came pouring back, so much that I felt I had to know if I could still do it after all that time.
I drive down to Biggin Hill and showed my licence to the instructors, none of them had seen a licence that old, and I had a job getting it back off them.
The upshot of all this, is that I went for an hours flight in a Piper Arrow with an instructor.
He asked me to taxi the aircraft out to the runway and while we were taxi-ing he asked me if I would like to do the take off. He must have had some confidence in me! So, I lined it up on the runway, put on full power and in a few seconds we were airborn. We flew down to the Rochester area and did a couple of stalls and tight turns and then headed back to Biggin Hill. I started the approach and was expecting the instructor to take over for the landing, but he just let me carry on and I made a near perfect flare out and landing ( I didn't bounce it!).
After this I was on a terrific high as it was almost 50 years to the day since I last did it! I have got the bug now and I intend to try and renew my licence.
Nice one.
I'd love to be able to fly a plane or helicopter.
I was also gonna say, was it a shock seeing planes only have a single pair of wings these days?
That's really great to hear...........I suppose it's like riding a bicycle.
I'm not that old Chris. I have never flown a biplane.
It is a bit like riding a bike, providing your fit the instinct is still there.
