The photo thread
Don't think a compact system camera will ever go fullfrme, the NEX 7 already struggles with dark corners at APS C. The Flange Focal Distance (gap between bayonet and sensor) of Sony's E-Mount is 18mm, leica's M Mount is 27.8mm (smallest mirrorless fullframe system). Sony would realisticaly have to add a centimeter to the thickness of the camera to do it. Interestingly, the Sony NEX 50mm 1.8 is 62mm long, the Canon 50mm f1.8 (full frame) is only 41mm long (the lens element is sigificantly recesseed to boot). It does seem that Sony are conceling the FFD in their lenses to give impressivley slim bodies?
Doesn't change my mind though, still think its ace
I have no idea about FFD. I neither have the technical competence to understand nor I am interested to learn
All I care about is the picture that my camera makes and whether it is to my expectations or not. And NEX does it already (albeit, some niceties are missing)!
However I some times ponder about the conspiracies / cartels and write some views (like above) which are some (wishful) thoughts !!

I would only be more jelous if you had an F40...
New toy, woo!
Took the plunge and sold my 7D body. Ive just bought a Sony NEX 5N and the 16mm pancake. Yay
I picked up the Sony 50mm f1.8 OSS yesterday to go on my NEX 5N. Had a quick little play with the fiddy this morning, using my brothers cat Banjo as a test subject. The shot was in really poor light, shot @ f2 and ISO 2500. I would say its useable, but don't think I would fancy printing anything this high. Pretty chuffed so far, the af is quick, even with the annoying af assist lamp switched off. The stock sony colour and contrast seems to be turned up to 11, I needed to do a fair amount to tame this image. Will have a play so I can be happy with the shots out of the camera.
(in case anyone is geeky enough to wonder, the blurry amp in the background is a Marantz PM 44 SE)

Looks like she was having a good time, but a bit grumpy in the second photo. Are you still with her?

Can't help thinking how much fun taking a compact to Italy on my honeymoon would be later this year...
You might want to think on this some more, take your wife, I'm sure there's a lot she can do that even the G1X cannot.

Hi Paul,
If you find the Nex colours a little strong have you tried going into the Set-Up menu and changing the "Color Space" from sRGB to Adobe RGB? This tones things down a fair amount from standard, at least on my old Nex-5.
Cheers,
Jim.
Hya Paul - clicked on your cat pic to find an excellent range of photos. On an AV front - the AE system is similar to mine with the setee against a back wall. I recently found improvement by setting them at the side firing directly across the seating. I would be interested to hear your comment on speaker positioning. Meanwhile - I am going to take a longer look at some of yr pix. Thanks.

Congratualtions! I hope you make more pictures than before (atleast that was one my thoughts for moving away from D7000 and it is working)
