If a genie grants you the opportunity to put together the greatest group of all time, dead or alive, who would you choose?

My choice is a little obscure, but here goes:

Drums: Cozee Powell (Rainbow)

Bass: Graham Maybe (Joe Jackson band)

Keyboards: Jools Holland

Guitars: Wilko Johnson (Dr. Feelgood)
Richie Blackmore (Rainbow)

Vocals: Jeff Buckley

I've deliberately missed the obvious choices.

Guitars... Joe Satriani (solo artist) and Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
Keyboards... Tony Banks (Genesis)

Vocals... Kurt Cobain / Mark Lanegan / Eddie Vedder / Chris Cornell can't decide!

Re: The greatest rock/pop band?

Drums:  Neil Peart (Rush)

Bass: Timothy B. Schmidt (Eagles)

Keyboards: Roy Bittan (E Street Band)

Guitars: Todd Rundgren and Tim Bricheno (ex- All About Eve)

Vocals: Steve Perry (ex-Journey)

Backing vocals: Rory Dodd and Jimi Jamison (ex-Survivor)

Chose Timothy Schmidt for Bass partly because of his singing and writing abilities. Same reason for choosing Todd Rundgren as one of my guitarists. I think my band would be particulary strong in the vocal department. Tempted to pick Roger Taylor on drums as he`s also a really good singer but in the end I couldn`t resist choosing Neil Peart for his amazing ability as a drummer. It was hard to leave out Neal Schon on guitar but I didn`t want two people from the same group and really wanted Perry on vocals. I know Perry`s left Journey but I still think of him as their singer and I didn`t want him and Schon having a go at each other! Couldn`t choose John Duncan because of contractural reasons and the fact that we haven`t got room in the back of the Bedford for his nine guitars which he insists on taking with him to every gig!Smile

Some cracking choices there, guys. Just shows how behind I've become with my music collection.

Keep them coming!

I have sneaky feeling that JD could be a red hot guitarist. Come JD, blow your own trumpet!!

I'm not. I'm 'accomplished', but not 'red hot'. I'm a better singer (subjectively).

And I started on the trumpet, but my lips were too fat, so they gave me a tenor horn instead........
