I am currently using Microsoft Office Word 2000 and the spell check on it does not seem to be working! Has anyone got any advice on what I should do or buy instead?

Thanks for the reply. So do I need to download OpenOffice? I have not used stuff like this for years. Step by step instructions would be great.
Bear in mind that Open Office does not save files in .doc format. It is an alternative programme to Microsoft Word, and does not solve your probem in Microsoft Word.

I find Open Office a pain, but that's because I need to footnote when writing; it's also cumbersome and unintuitive in other regards. As a result, I always go for the full fat MS option. You could simply upgrade to a more recent version of MS Office.
I'm not sure why the older version is refusing to spell check. Can you elaborate on the problem?

Yep, going back to John Lewis in the morning to buy the new one, do you recommend any particular one? I was thinking about Microsoft Ofiice Home and Student? £110. I have a test next week on Excel too and have not used it for a while.
The problem is the same one BB has linked too, I will just turn it on again and reply again with the problem, I am on iPad at the moment. From memory it was file not working, when you click on spelling and grammar check.
Okay just clicked on Tools and then Spelling and Grammar and then I get a message Word cannot find the spelling file MSSpell3.dll or mssp232.dll for.
Do you have the installation discs for Office 2000 Gel?
If so uninstall the programme and reinstall it.
Marantz M-CR603 + AirPlay • Rega R3 loudspeakers • iPhone 5 • iMac • Apple Airport Extreme 802.11n • Apple iPad Mini • Panasonic TX-L32D25B • Sony BDP-S390 • Ruark Audio R1 Deluxe • Humax HDR-Fox T2
Yep - cheers.
Laserman's advice makes sense. If you still have the disc, uninstall the program then try installing it again.
I'm still running MS Office 2003 without problems, though I'm having to convert an increasing number of files.
Failing that, go for the cheapest option you can find that does everything you need. Which programs do you need and how sophisticated do your options need to be? If you're only writing word documents and don't need to footnote/endnote, Open Office may be all you need. It's free, too, so you'll always have the most up to date version.
Cheers Chebby. I will have a look.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Writing important letters, learning how to use Excel again and PowerPoint. Going John Lewis in the morning.
I suppose being up to date with all the new stuff too.
