Should Liverpool sack Roy Hodgson?
As a lifetime Liverpool supporter, I have now become depressed by the form and quality of this once great team, so I think Mr Hodgson should go.
I have many reasons for thinking this, and it isn't a knee-jerk reaction to a very poor result last night.
I think Roy stated at the beginning of the season that he should be judged after 10 games.
Well so far, we have played 18 Premier league games, and currently reside in 12th place with a record of 6 wins, 4 draws and 8 defeats.
Some of those wins and draws were very fortunate, having been outplayed by West Brom, Birmingham, Wigan and Sunderland.
We have been knocked out of the Carling Cup at home to Northampton Town.
Transfer wise, Roy has truly excelled in poor decisions.
Players In: Raul Meireles (his only good signing, though constantly played out of position) / Christian Poulsen (just poor) / Joe Cole (has failed to live up to his billing) / Paul Konchesky (see Christian Poulsen) / Milan Jovanovic (not his signing, though a decent player, but can't get a game because Hodgson doesn't like him)
We are very fortunate at Liverpool to have one of the best young talents in world football, Daniel Pacheco. He also can't get a game, or when he is played (in a meaningless european tie), he is also played out of position. Anybody who knows football, can see that his natural position is just behind the centre forward, but Mr Hodgson insist on playing him as a right or left midfielder.
Not only is Paul Konchesky poor, he cost us 4 - 5 million plus two young players with bright futures. One of those players, Lauri Dalla Valle has a big big future.
He also sold Krisztian Nemeth for peanuts, another player with a big future.
Alberto Aquilani, a highly regarded Italian midfielder who cost over 20 million has been loaned out, with an option to buy for 12 million.
There is a theme to the players he bought and sold, namely age.
Konchesky is 29 nearly 30, Poulsen is 30 nearly 31, Meireles is 27 nearly 28 and Joe Cole is 29
Aquilani is 26, Lauri Dalla Valle is 19, Alex Kacaniklic is 19, Krisztian Nemeth is 21 and Emiliano Insua is 21
I could go on, but I won't.
Needless to say, It is time for Roy to go, he is out of his depth.
I feel for you at the moment, I am used to watching dismal displays by my team (Portsmouth) and one thing I know is stability is required, give him time and accept that he has inheritted a pile of c**p. TBH only Gerrard,Torres, Reina and Carragher are where the club deserves to be, the whole squad is not a patch on its former self.
Accept this as a transition period in which you probably will not win anything, but will be building a good solid base for a charge within the next two to three years. It is more than the most recent managers fault and those back room problems require addressing and stability first. I dont care what anyone says it affects the team.
Also we are coming up to the January transfer window and many players who want out for whatever reason will not give 100% for fear of injuring themselves. Sad but true fact.
Like I said above, Liverpool is a truely great club and deserves to win titles, trophies etc, unfortunately at the moment you have not got the players your club deserves.
Konchesky is pants though, that is a fact. He did well at middle to bottom of the table, top four / european standard, miles off
Why? Just because of the way he talks
A manager needs time and money he has not had any and all he has inherited is a flagging Rafa team.
I don't accept that all of our players are c**p. If you go through the players one by one, you have to say that apart from Konchesky and Poulsen, they are good players.
It's just that Hodgson won't play some of the better players, or when he does, he plays them out of position.
He's played Raul Meireles behind the centre forward, right midfield and central midfield (2 or 3 times only)
He also insist on having at least one holding central midfielder, even against - and I say this with the utmost respect - poor teams
He stands on the touchline, indecisively rubbing his face. He's a t**t
He's had time, and the money he has spent so far has been wasted on ageing players.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of those who wants Rafa back, definitely not.
I just want him out
Lee H, thanks for the thumbs up, but please give me your opinion.
You'll feel better if you rant, I do (but only a bit)
liverpool need a proven worldclass goalscorer to compliment torres
ngog is a league one player, voronin was worse, babel has had his chance, these are not liverpool players, they need a villa or a tevez type player, and fast..
completely agree. I live in London so bought a season ticket to Fulham last season (mostly as it worked out as £19 a game and the two previous seasons I paid a tout £70-80 for tickets to see Fulham - Liverpool).
I've Woy up close, and he's a fine manager of mediocre players - great at getting them to raise their game, but the Liverpool players realised he was a cheap recruit from the word go, and they haven't performed. There's a lot of fat in the squad, and it needs a strong manager with a big ego to whip it into shape.

I rant regularly enough on a football forum ![]()
So, my view is that he was brought in to "rebuild" as finishing 7th was not good enough. We currently sit bottom half and frankly, 7th looks like a pipe dream. Is the squad good enough to challenge at the top? No. Is it better than Wolves, Blackpool et al? Yes. The formation is fine but the players are getting shoe-horned in to it in way that a primary school PE teacher would be ashamed of. Last night being a case in point. Kuyt wide left and Mierles wide right!!! Just nonsensical.
Yes the players need to step up and take accountability but they are only doing what they are instructed to do. I was a steward at Anfield some years back and regular attendee, but the club aren't getting another penny from me whilst this clown is in charge. The club I love are slipping backwards, I can only see our best players leaving. The longer Roy remains in charge the more likely we are to keep going backwards.
I'm not doubting that he's trying, or that he's doing his best or even that he's a nice guy. This isn't a personal attack. He's just not up to the job. Doing a "good job" at Fulham is very different to running LFC.

maxflinn, I'm not sure if you are a Liverpool fan or nor, or how well you know some of the lesser known players. You have a point about needing a world class striker, but I truly believe that we should play Daniel Pacheco behind Torres, and see if it will work. I believe it will, because he is an extremely talented player, who always wants the ball and can see a pass. Some people believe that he is too small, but that's absolute nonsense. Is Luka Modric too small?
Lee H and Big Aura,
I agree with everything you have said.
It's a bad time with the transfer window looming to sack a manager, but I worry if we do give him time and money, he will waste it on mediocrity, and we will fall even further back.
I'm hopeful that Damien Comolli will have a fair bit of clout with possible transfers, as I can't trust a manager who actively chased Carlton Cole and Luke Young, and bought Paul Konchesky and Christian Poulsen to buy me lunch, let alone a quality player
At the end of day who was he suppose to sign then on the budget he was given? ![]()
Joe Cole was suppose to be a "fantastic" signing the Liverpool fans were saying at the start of the season - what has he done?
Torres looks like he wants to leave all very well blaming the manager, why not boo Torres if he wants out? ![]()
As for blaming a left back on your teams problems?
i think the other players are more to blame don't you? ![]()
Just my views looking at it from a neutral aspect.

Frankly, why should anyone other than the board of directors care?

You're right about Joe Cole, though I was never convinced, as I knew he only came so he could play behind the striker, and he's failed.
I will admit that last night, Torres looked extremely poor in both attitude and quality on the ball, but I don't think Torres wants to leave, he is just so p*****d off with challenging for centre half hoofs.
Hodgson wants the central defenders to play this way, ask Daniel Agger.
As for budgets, he had enough to buy Meireles, and he had Aquilani at the club, so why waste 5 million on Poulsen?
As for Konchesky, why ship Insua out? Insua's not great, but he has potential, Konchesky has no ability or potential, and we gave Fulham 4 million plus 2 excellent youngsters for him. It's madness!
