Don't know if people have read this or not but I saw a brief report on it today

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/21/20091214/ttc-cold-call-scam-warning-issued-e...

They actually called my house three times at the start of the year. First time they caught me off-guard as there was mention in the news of some new virus attacking computers. I asked for details of their web-site and I'd call them back if interested. It's only when I put the phone down that I realised I had all the software I needed on my computer to do it and did a full system scan with everything and it came up clean. They got my wife the second and panicked her. Third time I put the phone down. I just assumed it was them chancing their arm that you'd buy their software but turns out it's your personal details.

Anyway. it's a head's up for people or if you hear of friends and family talking about it.

Re: Scam

I've heard about this scam. I received a similar call, but was someone who told me that there has been an accident claim from my address within the past 3 years as per Government records.....& my house is a new build, I moved in only 6 months ago!!! And I certainly made no claim!! Maybe he wanted to extract some personal information out of me.

By the way, your link doesn't work. This is a link for a similar article: http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2009/oct/09/computer-virus-phone-call-scam
