Olympic Boredom !
Some fantastic performances from the GB cycling team. Brilliant.
Pure magic to watch. There has been 5 finals in the Velodrome so far and Team GB have won 4.
Its really time for Paul McCartney to pack it all in now though, its all getting a bit embarrassing.
Presumably he'll now want the extra royalties for 6000 people singing it in public and the millions watching it. (Mac)Kerching!
Well, it's technically just over a week since Macca's last performance, not that endless rounds of "na nas" are ever welcome in my view.
Hell, I can't get cynical about it all right now. This is the most fun I've had watching British competitors at a major international sporting event. Those decades of disappointment make the victories all the sweeter.
Go Jess (in roughly 30 minutes); and fair play to Murray and Robson. Laura certainly played her part (even if she got a bit jumpy at times)!
A quite magnificent win tonight and if Andy plays like this then he can win the Gold, no doubt about it.
Lets hope the roof stays open this time!
Yes indeed
(some more
)
He and young Laura did well... Silver guaranteed
It's amazing. (I still remember Atlanta 1996.)
I was supposed to be going to bed early tonight... 3 golds in the athletics stadium, faaaanntastic (to quote Murray Walker entirely out of context!!) What a great night, what a great day in fact, I'll go to bed a happy chap tonight.
Olympic boredom? Pah, not on your life

Twas a night to remember.

So....you lot not looking forward to the up-coming games then
Other people seem to like them and it's only once every four years. I just don't, personally, enjoy them. Hopefully they will all be on Sky next time.
They're already there Cheb. BBC1,2,3 and if you go up the channels a bit, 18 olympic channels from the Beeb. Plus all the news channels. I was sick of itbefore it even started. And after this little lot we've a fortnight of Paralympics. those I can tolerate but, like a previous poster, I wish somewhere else had got it. Suffice to say that Beehive Bedlam is taking a bit of a pasting at the moment.

I have got into the games a little more than I expected over the last week (and since I wrote my posts at the beginning of the thread). My wife has been watching and so it has been on whilst I am around and I sort of got caught up in it.
I didn't watch any Olympics in 2008 (or for many years - actually a few decades* - prior to that).
I had always sort of assumed that our involvement in the Olympics was marginal at best (and a check on the stats for some past Olympics bears that out), so I never thought there was anyone to actually support.
The Beijing Olympics happened in a different time zone, and I worked shifts, so I probably worked and slept through that lot and just caught snippets from the news.
This time it has been different and has crept up on me through the week.
However, I doubt very much if I'll start watching athletics or rowing or gymnastics after the London Olympics has finished. This is a one-off for me.
*1964 far too young to remember anything on TV or anything at all (although, strangely, I remember the TV Olympic theme tune 'Tokyo Melody')
1968 I only remember a swimmer called Mark Spitz
1972 I only remember the reports of the massacre on the news and Mary Peters winning gold
1976 I don't even remember where it was held unless I look it up
1980 That was during the years I didn't even have a TV
1984 Too busy
1988 - 1996 Still too busy/no interest
2000 - 2004 No idea what happened, or where they were held, or how well GB did.
2008 I remember we did well in the medals table but that's about it.
Other than for professionals, such as our Mr Paul, I find it hard to see people will have anything to complain about. Everything was ready, travel problems have been fairly minor, ditto queue problems, ditto seating, the sport has been fantastic and we've won a whole bunch of medals.
Apart from the men's cycling road race, when there was a problem getting the times through, the coverage has been excellent (even tho freeview means I've only had 3 channels), and the presentation and commentary even from non-specialists has been superb (such as Clare Balding at the swimming, and the clay pigeon commentary). Ian Thorpe has been excellent at the swimming.
Staggering performances at the rowing and cycling, these memories should be treasured as continued excellence like this will be very difficult. Murray played one of his best games against djokovic, what a high standard from both. He'd have had a real chance at Wimbledon IMHO if he'd had support like that, and I really hope he can get at least one gold today. And as for last night, wow. I can't recall a night of success like that for us in athletics.
Didn't we only get one gold at the whole Atlanta games?!

I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. Ive never been a massive fan of John Inverdale or Clare Balding, but watching them throughout this coverage has shown what excellent presenters they are. Not only because of their style, but of course their knowledge also.
Jake Humphrey has been brilliant as always, and even Lineker has found a little charisma from somewhere.
Another great job by the BBC.
Have truly been caught up in the spirit! Having just watched Andy and Laura get into the mixed double final, me and the other half went up to London yesterday (guess what, there was a reasonable amount of room on the train and London wasn't a ghost town!), then we walked along the river and eventually found a large screen broadcasting next to Tower Bridge. Watched Jess, Greg and Mo win their golds in an amazing atmosphere - truly a night to remember.
Congratulations to all the athletes. But i still find the coverage and hype way over the top.
The words ''amazing'' and ''wow'' should now be banned. [Take note BBC] :)
Give it a week or so, then we will be back to reality.....euro zone....high unemployment... ho hum.
So we best enjoy it why it's here.
SO GO TEAM GB !
