From what I can gather, the club seem concerned that Agger will not sign a new deal, and as he only has 2 years left of his current contract, he may end up going on a free after those two years, or cheaply in the last year.
Agger has clearly stated, and I have no reason to doubt his honesty, that he wants to stay at Liverpool. So the problem seems to be either length of new contract, or money, probably money. I don't know what he earns, or what he would like to earn, but if he his only asking for parity with the high earners at the club, I think he should get it. To me, he's as important as Gerrard, Suarez and Reina, so just give him the money.
We've given Suarez a bumper new contract, and are close to agreeing a deal with Skrtel, we've spent £15 million on another central midfielder, but we can't seem to find the money to pay our best defender what he wants.
I might be wrong on some or all of my assumptions, , but if I'm right, I think it's a poor way to treat someone who has been at the club for so long, and would like to stay much longer.

Yes, that makes sense. Agger seems to have gone on a media drive in the last few days to say how much he wants to stay. It has similarities to our Holt situation in terms of contract difficulties, although Holt was pushing (publicly) to leave in order to get his way. Our board did the decent thing to our key player and a player who has been our talisman for three seasons and gave him the longer contract. With Liverpool's recent history, I'm not convinced they will do the decent thing to Agger.

Looks like Barca want Agger, could be hard to keep him now. I don't understand spending £15m on Joe Allen - looks like you guys are buying younger players.
Looks like we have just signed Garrido at left back - quite pleased with that.

Thanks for the news gel Just the position we thought needed strengthening, brings a bit of PL experience and rated dough for Spsin to take the Olympics. I work with lots of Man City fans so will try and get their view on him. My only concern is this marks a stoat tyre from our policy of signing young, British players. Might this affect squad harmony? Hopefully not, as PL said we've signed most of the best players in our price range from the lower leagues! So casting the net wider was perhaps inevitable and at least he'd played here and his English should be ok.
Also wanted to say, congratulations to John Ruddy on his first England cap Must be a long time since our last England player. I heard he made a good save, did anyone watch the match to report back?
Yeah Ruddy was brilliant! Made 3 or 4 great saves - people raving about him - just upped his valuation by at least a couple of million - brilliant stuff.
Reckons on Skysports News Morison is a target for QPR and Birmingham, and Norwich want £1m for Vaughan. Our squad is going to look very different possibly soon. We could do with a striker or two now, wonder Hughton will go for. Pre-season was hardly good - tad on the worried side now.
Just signed Bassong from Spurs for a reported £5.5m - that must be a record signing - good one?
Former Norwich City manager John Bond has died. RIP
Nope. I suppose he's not too bad! Bad start for us though, and now got you BBB in a bottom of the table clash Saturday!
Yeah sad news.
Hadn't seen this before, sad news indeed
From what I've read, he's been one of our fairly few highlights. We've been looking more solid at the back but now can't score any goals. We seem to be lacking midfield cohesiveness / creativity, not making enough chances. I'm hoping this will go like last season, take a while to get the first win and then kick on from there. I'm not hugely optimistic at the moment, but there certainly are some poor sides (again) in the PL, and we only need to be better than three of them
Hopefully without Mark Halsey as ref.
Yeah, Bassong has been quite good apart from the penalty he gave away against QPR. Don't understand Johnson playing in midfield I suppose we have no one else with Fox being hurt and Crofts sold - another bad decision. I hope you're right with the season picking up now - just can't see it at the minute though. So far it has made pretty painful viewing and some of Hughton's decisions - flipping heck!
Hoping for a win tonight and then on Saturday. We can leave Liverpool in the bottom three.
