Memories of your first job
I used to work for them!
So did I!
The term "rec.imsc" doesn't mean anything to you does it?
Er, no. Was only there a year on contract though. What is it?
I have spent almost half my life in the Royal Navy and the last four with BAE systems.......I love ships!
Nice one. I love ships too. I have been on about 10 cruises. Like to spend my retirement on a cruise ship non stop.
Retirement from what??

Back then Ben! It is a long term plan!

I've got it!
gel's never had a job, so he'll actually be working on the cruise ship.
It's like normal life, but in reverse.

Yeah, xmas and NY was spent in sunnier climes. And today was, uh, back to work, in the rain
Well you don't need to retire til you're at least 60, so you could leave getting the job for another, say, 26 years

No, Im afraid not Lhc. Im strictly Engineering Management, not IT, though I do liase with IT folk on some of my projects.

No, I didn't think it would you haven't been there long enough. The person I know at Portsmouth isn't in IT either.
first job was working in a greengrocers for IR£13 a day. 1 day a week (when the spud delivery came in) was hellish heavy lifting, the rest was minor lifting and lots of chatting up the girl on the tills. A great summer! For my first "proper" job, I guess I'm probably still doing that, but (like lhc) it's for a different employer and in a different country too.
I guess I must be the only one then, I had a paper round.

I currently do. Well til end of March anyway.
My first job (after paper rounds and before A Levels etc) was in the local shop. 1st Day was 18 March 1995, I remember that day cos I worked the afternoon and was then in hospital by the evening.
Just done my skills based CV.
Left college 1970.Did my C&G in television and electronics. Worked for Rank bush murphy in drayton road borehamwood.
Servicing boring transistor radios and radiogram amps
Then dad reckoned i was capable of better things, and funded three years at uni for me. Did sound engineering etc etc. And then worked for ATV in borehamwood. Last twenty years worked for myself.
So i have been fairly happy with my working life.
15 - 16 (During O' Levels) Supermarket butchery department on Saturdays and holidays and a couple of evenings every week. (It was the worst/messiest job in the place but the highest hourly pay.)
16 - 18 (During A' Levels) Hi-fi/TV and record shop salesperson on Saturdays and some holidays (very little actual 'pay' but excellent commission), KFC restaurant a couple of evenings a week, two 13 week college summer holidays entirely spent full-time at local IBM plant (masses of overtime and fantastic money even for a student worker). I was living in my own bedsit and supporting myself from age 16 onwards - all through college - so I dd a lot of work during evenings and weekends and holidays to keep everything afloat.
18 - present. Full-time IT worker.
