She apparently owes HMRC £149,000 and Lloyds bank £30,000

Should she have entered into an IVA and tried to pay off her debts or did she take the easy option.

I guess Activia may be good for you but it don't keep you out of the bakrupcy courts Martine!

First of all let's make it clear that I don't condone violence of any kind.
It's not big and it's not clever.
But, figuratively speaking...
Is it just me who finds Martine McCutcheon's boat-race high on the list of 'faces you just want to b!!ch-slap', particularly on the Activia ads?
I don't even know why...

Cannot agree, acting skills are limited to say the least but I find her very attractive. Here's hoping she has a thing for burnt out has beens that never quite made it in life with the best years long behind them in the looks and health department. Could be the right time for me to strike now she has reached so low ?

Perhaps you could offer to play the Hugh Grant part in her next film 'Debt Actually'...

I think my wife would be in front of you in the queue, she really hates her.

Personally, I just find it hard to believe that someone who has earned so much money can be so heavily in debt.

I noted her address as being in Esher, maybe she could have sold her house to pay off the debts, rather than take the easy option, and the more expensive one for the tax payer. Jimmy Carr, Amazon etc were rightly slated for not paying their fair share of tax, she's managed to get away with not paying nearly £150,000 worth.

Is this how declaring yourself bankrupt works, or have I got it wrong? Please correct me if I am.

Sounds about right. I assume your creditors could put a charge on the equity in a property, so the tax man may be able to force a sale of the house. Don't really know tho.

IIRC, if you're a bankrupt, then your property is 'safe' but you can't be a company director and/or have a bank account for '??'-number of years - correct?

Didn't MC Hammer pull a similar stroke, even though he had/has a few mil' in the bank?  puzzled

The government guidance looks like my guess was correct: https://www.gov.uk/bankruptcy/your-home

Don't know about mc hammer but maybe not in this country?

Maybe she rents, unlikely, but possible. More likely, she transfered the ownership to someone else before declaring herself bankrupt.

Could she then have the property transferred back in to her name at a later date?
