Male domination
Yes, but are either of them into hifi?

I did say it was unrelated.
I enjoy going with my wife when she is buying a car, computer, TV or audio equipment. Getting the sales person to concentrate on her wishes or even address her, let alone answer her technical questions can be a joy to watch. If I say anything the conversation immediately swings to me.
Sadly, I have never been asked if I liked the colour.

So its not about evolution? Men having selective ears? Hormones? And I thought this would be the start of a scientific discussion. Good night all.
I think, in some way, it is about bass traps.

Hmmm, where does that leave an eccentric geek

....alone?
My girlfriend appreciates that our hi-fi sounds decent, but she would likely have been just as happy with her old Panasonic mini system.
She does come shopping for hi-fi, but I think it's mainly so she can say "No". If she's in a good mood she'll maybe say "No. Unless they come in Walnut". But then if shown them in Walnut she'll say "No" again.
AV enthusiasts seize every opportunity to feel smugly superior, hence their often patronising comments about "wife approval" of tech aesthetics at the expense of performance. There's no reason why an aesthetically pleasing living room shouldn't be as much of a priority as audio-visual performance, though our language often portrays women as fluffy-headed philistines for not sharing our concerns. All of which presumes women have no interest in audio-visual performance, which isn't always the case...
Two active crossovers? Sounds like it.
That was very good Ben and you beat me to it.
Chebby, absolutely brilliant.

Same experience. In a Lexus garage, my wife was asking questions but the answer would be addressed to me. I was more than a little displeased.

Ah, but where better than an anonymous forum, made up mostly of our piers, is there to come on full of bravado.....and then endlessly pontificate!
I will tell you what it is from my perspective. I love music , have done for as long as I can remember due to my parents. The seriousness some people will go to in order to prove that their box of wires is so much better than all the other boxes of wires is a total turn off.
I like reading about peoples experiences in something that I have an interest in regardless of whether they are "deluding " themselves.
Cnoevil has it spot on with the "pontificating" point. It's a hobby meant to be enjoyed. For some the enjoyment seems to be belittling others.
Its simply not on.
