I'm still not clear on what lazy language is.
Are all (or any) colloquialisms lazy language? Does "lazy language" simply refer to anything that's not the Queen's English? Perhaps someone can clarify.
Hardware: Panasonic TX-P50VT65B (calibrated); Cambridge Audio Azur 651BD; Yamaha RX-A810; Teac PD-H600; PS3; B&W 601 & 600LCR (series 3); Q Acoustics QAV (rear)
Furniture and Accessories: BLOK Classix 3000 Oak AV Cabinet; Atacama Nexus 6 (atabite metal filled); 3D3 A1112
Let me help you out. 'Lazy language' is any neologism that I happen to deplore. 'Soz' is a rather endearing contraction so not lazy language. 'Lol' however has no redeeming features other than brevity so is definitely lazy language. If enough people agree with me 'soz' is a stayer and 'lol' will go the way of 'zounds'. By that time I'll be past caring - living languages don't care which is the difference between them and dead languages.
I was waiting for a tram in Manchester city centre two days ago and they'd been delayed. The electronic display said "We apologise for any inconvinience"

Is that a lack of Chablis?

BTW, IMO, LOL is ok.
Orly? u say.
AFAIAC LOL is here to stay. It's become a word in itself.
Lazy language to me is lack of thought when spelling there, their, they're, yours, your's etc.
Nothing wrong with using acknowledged acronyms.
RTFM being one of the best (I am in IT)
“Out beyond ideas of wrong and right, there is a field.
I'll meet you there."
I like soz. I don't like lol because they are lying usually. I like orly, which is quite new to me and has a nuance that I like. My favourite abbreviation is obv. My favourite smiley (which is also quite new to me) is \o/. I hate the way skype turns it into a little dancing John Travolta though, which really isn't what I'm trying to convey...
He's not a diamond geezer, or called Joe!
Another good 'un is GIRFUY, aye!
Oh really. Though I always read it as 'oh *rrreeeeeaaallllyyyy*'
I hadn''t heard that one...
But along those lines,
FFS is a good one.
PWN3d is a bad one that only spotty 15 year olds use
STFU is a good one if a little rude (Chip wouldn't like that one)
MILF is an excellent one.
GMILF , not so excellent (yet)
Ta JD - I should have guessed that
Some of us need to settle for what we can get, mate...
BTW, IMO, LOL is ok.
