Great radio show, except when they get someone on who loves everything (sorry Evelyn, I do like you but it was a dull show...), anyway it got me thinking about what popular things people have never got round to experiencing.

For example:

Music: I've made a joke of this a couple of times in the last week or so that nobody picked up on but - I've never heard Dark Side of the Moon (half the forum falls off their chairs). Or in fact Wish You Were Here (although I got snatches of it from the BBC Four program the other night) or ANY Pink Floyd, other than Another Brick in the Wall, none of it. I wouldn't recognise a Floyd song on the radio. Come to think of it that whole era has passed me by completely, Jethro Tull, no idea, ELP, not a clue, I only listen to a Black Sabbath album for the first time two weeks ago (Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on 2009 vinyl re-issue, pretty good).

Cinema: I've never seen Psycho. I feel like I have, just because "that" scene gets shown so often but I haven't. I actually haven't seen a number of cinema's "Classics", again mostly from the 70s, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Clockwork Orange, The Exorcist etc. I haven't seen any Friday the 13th or Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street (not saying they're classics but you couldn't move for people talking about them when I was at school).

So, how about you, what's the thing that everyone raves about that you've never seen or listened to?

If you haven't heard  the opening of "Time" or "Money" you must have been living in a box as they are often used on the tv although of course you might not recognise them as such.   "Fanfare for the common man" also appears frequently. I can join you in not having seen Psycho, Clockwork Orange ,Friday the 13th,  Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street and can add Texas Chainsaw massacre (they all sound unpleasant) as well as Citizen Kane and Jaws. I have never listened to a Michael Jackson, Blur, Adele or Oasis album, although I know the singles.

More than likely, there's a lot of stuff from that era that I've got no idea about (I'm rubbish on Popmaster as it's mostly 70s music!).

Oh yeah, I knew I'd forgotten one!

Kane, check, I have seen Jaws, great film!

Same here other than Michael Jackson, I used to own Bad (haven't seen the cassette for more than a decade though) and have Off the Wall and Thriller on vinyl, but no albums by the other three either.

Can I ask a question? Are you approaching 40 faster than you'd like?

I am approaching 52 faster than I would like Smile

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hasn't seen Star Wars!!!

I haven't got a TV licence, as I don't watch TV. I do the odd catch up on iplayer, which you don't need a licence for. Generally though, no interest in TV at all. That's why I'm useless at pub quizes. I couldn't name a single character in a soap opera.

Great topic. I'm sure there'll be some good ones on here.

Just for the record I HAVE seen Star Wars, that's the name of the Radio 4 show that inspired me to ask the question.

I'm brilliant at Pub quizzes, I have won many tins of peas as a result. Do you know I once named a track in an intros round from the single opening drumbeat? I've never been more proud. And that's saying something...

I'm awful at maths, but I once correctly recognised the Fibonacci Sequence in a quiz. Pretty chuffed with that Smile  I didn't tell anyone I only recognised it because of this tune...

BT - Fibonacci Sequence

Although I have eaten jelly fish, I would have said I have never eaten horse, but who can be sure of that anymore? I have never watched a complete episode of Coronation Street or Miranda, or a live cricket or rugby match.

I am keen on eating offal. Kidney, liver and heart are my limit though.

I have also eaten black pudding and fresh (made on the premises) f-aggots* from our butcher. (Covered in some membrane or other from the inside of a pig.) Delicious with onion gravy.

But I have neven eaten tripe or brains or trotters. Odd that I can be 'squeamish' about some things but not, say, a nice stuffed heart or fried liver and onions.

I am told that calves brains are delicious but I know I am never even going to try them.

I confess and very proud to say that I haven't seen Top Gun, E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind and like the earlier respondent I haven't listened to ELP (or is it ELO), never attended an opera though I have endured a ballet with a female acquaintance once -- and that was once too many!

I meant ELP but now you mention it either will do just as well...

RE: I've Never Seen Star Wars

I once shared a flat with someone who'd seen very few mainstream movies - she'd never seen a long list of popular movies from James Bond films to Star Wars to The Sound of Music. She did, however, have an excellent knowledge of far higher cultural fare. Fear not, several movie nights in, I soon dragged her down to my level Smile

My mate is brilliant at them. In New Zealand we were a team of two against teams of 8 and we finished 3rd out of 12 teams. We got 63.5 correct; my mate had 62.5 and I got one. (Who was the first nude centrefold for Playboy? Easy). He even knew exactly how many pairs of shoes Mrs Marcos had!

Why would you be proud not to have seen Top Gun?

Obviously not in to homo-erotic volley ball scenes?  Can't please everyone...  rolling on the floor laughing

Because it's rubbish. Don't know why you'd put Close Encounters in the same bracket though, I can't think of two less similar films (I have seen ET but only once, when it was released in the cinema, I did have the sticker album though so I must have liked it...).
