Walk along the Thames towards the Eye and go for a ride.  Brilliant views.

RE: I'm in LONDON !!!

If the Dungeons and Tussauds are your thing, go crazy, but I find the length of queues in inverse proportion to the enjoyment Smile

Second the vote for the London Eye, which I could spend all day on. The South Bank is a great place to be in general - walk from the Eye and head east to the Tate Modern (half an hour walk maybe?), which is one of my favourite spaces in the whole world, and sometimes has some interesting art in it :-)  You could then walk across the Millenium Bridge to St Paul's Cathedral.

The Tower of London is actually more interesting than I thought it would be, and you'd get to see the Crown Jewels.  Prepare to be ripped off for entry fee though.

Places to eat - I love the Oxo Tower (which you pass walking between the Eye and the Tate Modern), which has a couple of restaurants, the middle-priced one and the expensive one, both of which are great.  If you want atmosphere and like Chinese, go up to Leicester Square and walk two minutes North into Chinatown.  The restaurants can be a bit 'touristy' as opposed to 'authentic' but if you can find one that's small and full of locals you shouldn't go wrong.  There are loads of other specific ones I can think of but depends on where you're going to be and what kind of food you like.

EDIT - I'm telling you to walk everywhere, and it's a miserable day; sorry...Sad

I'd check out Covent Garden - good shopping and eating places + see the various street entertainers doing their thing. Also, if you keep walking east down the river, past the London Eye, you'll get to the South Bank where there's a few nice places to eat and the Royal Festival Hall. Keep up that walk - there's a few things on the way, but keep going past Blackfriars Bridge and you'll eventually find the Tate Modern (worth a look) and then the Globe theatre - might not be your thing, but what better than a Shakespeare play when you're in England? Even if you don't fancy a play, it's worth taking a tour round the place to see the history.

EDIT - I see JD and I frequent the same parts of London!

+1 for Covent Garden, though I'm not so keen on the restaurants there if I'm honest.  Plenty of chains if that's your thing.  If you fancy spending an afternoon getting lashed on good wine (no beer :-/) I do like the Crusting Pipe in the piazza though...

If your wife likes perfume then try Penhaligons in Burlington arcade (or Covent Garden).

The perfume is a bit pricey but they have been making their own stuff for hundreds of years and it's good.

Same goes for Floris in Jermyn St.

Afternoon tea in Fortnum & Masons. (Just to say you've done it!)

Oh you've reminded me.  The Food Hall in Harrods.  Not to buy anything, just to look.

And while you're out west, the Science, Natural History and V&A Museums are fantastic.

How long did you say you're staying again? Smile

RE: I'm in LONDON !!!

Hope you enjoy your weekend!

If you can get a table you might want to try eating in Sarastro restaurant on Drury Lane in Covent Garden, menu is Turkish oriented and broadly meditteranean in style and it's a very interesting and stylish decor!

You would need to book if fancy it

http://www.sarastro-restaurant.com/

(0)20 7836 0101

As imaginative and remarkable as a scene from The Arabian Nights, the interior of Sarastro is ablaze with swirling colour and visual excitement. The bustling main floor is surrounded on three sides by ten distinctive opera boxes based on English, Gothic, Rococo, Ottoman and Byzantine styles, whilst the exclusive and prominent 'Royal Box' commands the centre position at the far end.

As the first restaurant in London to feature balconies, and with banisters taken from the Royal Opera House, Sarastro offers a diverse range of seating accommodation; much of which is partially enclosed to offer partial privacy for diners of a more discreet nature.
