I've made a point of avoiiding one of these (along with a bread maker) - I'm in bad enough shape as it is!
A bread maker is unlikely to have a negative impact on your physique / health, there's a lot less salt and other rubbish in bread you make yourself.

Yup, a bread maker is fine - far better than the c**p you buy from the shops.
Will only use the ice cream maker during warm periods, hence why only looking for a cheapish one. Anyway yogurt or ricotta ice cream is healthy and you can substitiute most of the sugar with honey and/or fruit soaked in Marsala.
We have a cheapish Philips one for years and it does the job. Does not make huge quantities, but the quality is fine. You need to freeze the inner bowl for about a day before hand, which is standard on anything without its own freezer.
I bought a manual (ie non-electric) Churn and Chill from Lakeland for £9.99, and it's brilliant.
Simple to use, and works with cream or yoghurt, so you can be as healthy or not as you wish. Takes about 15 minutes of churning to make soft-serve ice-cream/frozen yoghurt. Small quantities, but that means you can make a range of flavours and don't get stuck with just one.

Absolutely. Also, there's no need to spend all that money for a bread maker either - you just need a mixing bowl and a loaf tin to bake it in (about £5). My other half makes fresh bread most weekends and it's soooo good!
Thanks Clare. Do enjoy a bit of churning. I'll check it out.
Yeah, I make bread about once a week by old fashioned kneading and proving. I'm known locally as "strong wrist penguin".

To answer responses to my comments
a) Bread is one of my favourite foods. and no, isn't especially unhealthy - unless of course you consider the lashings of Lurpak (not essential but makes ALL the difference)
b) If your going to have "healthy" ice cream, what's the point?
b) You're right, but as I mentioned before it'll only be used at certain times of the year, so unlike bread it won't be a daily occurrence. Rather have home made than stuff than shop bought with all additional fat solids. Pretty much the same with bread.
And I always thought the lady wasn't for churning.
Now where's the cloakroom ticket for m'coat...?

Plan to make my own recipe Pina Colada ice cream this weekend, including fresh pineapple, coconut cream and rum essence. Yum!
Essence? Essence?? Who are you and what have you done with the real Clare Newsome?
