Buy hdmi cables from china.  Cover in thick hose pipe.  Sell for £300.  Repeat.

Start working in a middle income job 35 years ago. Live on beans on toast, and forego holidays, flash cars, marriage, children, hi-fis etc. and save up a big deposit for eight years. Get a mortgage on the biggest/nicest house you can afford around 1985. Sell it just before the market peaked and crashed around 1988. Invest all profits in Microsoft shares and live cheaply with parents for about a decade. Sell MS shares in late 1999 (before the .com 'crash') and buy Apple shares. Then wait until about now and buy Hampshire.

Oh for the benefit of hindsight. That may have actually worked. Smile

Yup, Hampshire could have been yours for the asking...

Me, I'm trying to find a factory in china with the requisite skill set to thread 10,000 £1 hdmi cables through 1m lengths of black PVC hose, for for sale on my website at £125 a go  excellent!

It's either that or start a social networking site...

Can't help but feel that shooter should've thought of that one.

Course, that's six a day for thirty years.  No wonder I've only got half a mill in the bank...

When someone says to you buy these shares in Apple, the price has been going down, they're about 18 quid at present but they have some good stuff in the pipeline, don't say "nonsense, they only make computers that are used in the graphics undustry". Angry

Seriously though, I had this discussion with a mate of mine a while back and we decided that I will never be very rich as I never take risks (the above comment actually happened to me!). I am an average bloke, work for an average wage, have average debts and live an average but comfortable (by my standards) life. He on the other hand lives life on the egde, self employed in sales, nice house, flash car, etc. He has been on the brink of losing everything on several occasions but is still always striving for that one big deal that will make the millions. Between the two of us, he is most likely to make it although it is very unlikely that he will... me?, I worry too much Smile

They went down to $17 just before Steve came back, then they dropped from $150 ish to $80 when he got sick again 2006-7 ish.  Around then, just before the iPhone launch would have been the most risk free time to do it.

Get a job as policeman 35 years ago. Work hard to pass your sergeant and inspector exams amd get promoted to inspector. Retire with a pension fund worth considerably more than a million ( about 1.2 million according to the Guardian). Please note this is not a political observation, I was just so surprised by the figures when I read them that it has stuck in my memory.

In general a million is not a lot these days - it won't buy you a house with off street parking in Clapham (I have a friend who is trying to buy one).
