I have just ordered this Blu-ray set from the BBC online shop for £17.49 (free postage).

Very pleased as Amazon are charging £24.99 for the same thing.

I have owned the 'House of Cards' trilogy on DVD since it first came out and I am lucky it hasn't worn out yet!  (I play it in it's entirety at least once a year.)

I started playing the DVDs again today and was casually looking to see if there is a more recent/restored release and found this blog page...

http://www.from-the-archive.co.uk/2013/02/blu-ray-review-house-of-cards-trilogy.html

It re-assured me that the restoration was done properly from the film/neg masters and that they have kept the original 4:3 format and not been tempted to hack off the top and bottom to make it fit widescreen (I hate it when that happens).

Really looking forward to it's arrival next week.

Plus it always ticks me off that the DVDs (in my old set) are double sided so I have to squint to see the tiny 'A' and 'B' around the edge of the disk.

The newly restored version also has lots of extras unlike the old set.

Has anyone - who enjoyed the old BBC series - seen the new Kevin Spacey 'House of Cards'? If so, how do they compare?

To use a WHF cliche' "like night and day".  The theme is same, the name of the show is the same and Spacey's character is called FU - but for Francis UNDERWOOD, don't think the Merkins could figure out how to pronounce Urquart, and about there the similarities end.  Loved the original, and the follow-up (whre like Jim Hacker, FU ends up as PM?) which, please remind me, was called what?

The three series' that make up the trilogy are...

House of Cards.

To Play the King.

The Final Cut.

PS

I loved the show, FU and Ian Richardson were the perfect combination, but  the original "Yes, Prime Minister" (luckily I haven't had to see the new one) has me splitting my sides while my American wife looks at me like I've been sniffing the Toilet Duck again.... Shock
