He also inherited a team of P--S Heads which took a while to clear out ( eg Whiteside, McGrath etc.) but stopped short at getting rid of the main culprit (Brian Robson) as that would have been too much for the fans to take.
Paul McGrath certainly admits to drinking heavily himself, even holding his breath on the pitch to cover the smell, but given his difficult youth I think p*** head is harsh. A bit more to it than just being being out on the lash with the lads.
I thought Fergie loved Mcgrath too, but his knees wouldn't allow consistency, Just unreliable. IDK, just my understanding. Happy to be educated?
I'll keep it relatively short, and (not overly) sweet.
I'm not a big Man United fan, but you have to admire his record as a manager, however begrudgingly.
Is he the best British manager ever? Well, he's certainly the most successful, though I would personally put Shankly up there with him as the best.
The things I dislike about him, are the things most non-Man U fans dislike about him, and are obvious to all but the blind, so they don't need to be repeated.
His successor? Well I've been saying Moyes for atleast the last 3 years, so I still think Moyes.
Will Moyes be successful? Undoubtedly, yes. Though we could see a much closer race for the title over the next few years.
Who will be most relieved? Fourth officials, followed by referees, followed by assistant referees.
Maybe we'll actually see some penalties given against Utd next season; miracles do happen.

Just how David Moyes will handle his new appointment ?
No harm to Mr Moyes but I don't think he'll be so good especially given that both Man City and Chelsea will be buying big time in the summer. When with Everton there are no real massive expectations but with those Man Utd 'fans' being so spoiled with so many trophies bought by Sir Alex when most clubs didn't have so much themselves to spend.... I recon Moyes will be hounded out sooner rather than later.
WILL David Moyes be given the go ahead on more big spending given how much debt that Club are already in, I wonder ?
IF Liverpool could get some more real decent clout then there's a wee chance they could catch-up the couple of titles they are behind though Man City for me WILL be again the side to top.

So far :)
David Moyes has a proven record of excellent man management,he's a very good tactician and has a good relationship with the press.
He also strongly believes in a youth policy...something utd fans hold dear.
He's taken his present club as far as possible on a limited almost non-existant budget. At utd they have to move forward every season,i can't see a reason for this to stop if DM is at the helm. It's not the fans being spoiled...it's the winning mentality Sir Alex has installed.
I would personally put Shankly up there with him as the best.
Same for me, Shanks was the main man... put 'L'Pool' on the Map so to speak...quite an amazing fellow.
We cannot forget Mr Cough either given that he won Two European Cups (the same amount as Sir Alex did) with a provinsial Club.... Notts Forrest.
Sir Alex had a brilliant gift of when not having the best players... still balancing his different sides and still able to win league titles... quite a feat.
I recon it's now the end of the road with Man Utd winning so much and that Man City will go on to become the bigger of the two Manchester Clubs.
Nah! Fred the Reds' opt-out clause would put the Glazers off.

What we COULD laugh at are the many, many Man Utd fans not attending when it is THEIR team not winning trophies any more.... then we will ALL see as to what 'great fans' they are eh ?
I recon more than Half are just glory-hunters and will seek out the Man City season tickets when they realise utopia under Sir Alex has vanished ... lol
What makes sir Alex the best for me,is how competitive the leagues are now in Europe and demesticly.
Years ago there was only ever a couple of teams in Europe that were any good now some countries have a couple of teams at a time that are of such a high standed and have a chance of winning tthing.
also the pressure involved in today's game is so much higher.
