Looking to convert some camcorder tapes to PC/DVD bought a cheap capture adaptor ad downloded Golden Video S/W but couldn't get sount to work. I have a old Nero 7 copy and it gets various errors but seems to work. Any current free S/W that I could try . For editing not wanting anything fancy just bin the 3 minutes of feet and sky shots etc.

I tried a few years back most of the 'big' software packages to do similar. Non worked reliably. AVS offers lifetime updates for their video and audio s/w for just a few pounds. Their support is even good. I suggest trying their free versions before buying but well worth a few quid. Let us know how you are getting on. I now use it often to edit avchd video for use on my pc and tablet. Once settings have been optimised the software is great.

I take it that the most recent incarnation has been improved beyond recognition compared to the utter heap of **** on my Windows XP laptop. I was also going to say AVS.

Copying from source via AVS works great , one of the others I tried kept dropping out at video segment change which luckily i noticed or a lot of footage could have been overlooked.

Giving that I'm just wanting to drop gaps between segments etc. on about 20 tapes I'm not goint to pay for the AVS editior part, Microsoft movie maker will do (downloaded it ) didn't realise that I had that for free

Thanks Robin/cheeseboy

Sounds like a plan kena. $59 for lifetime on ALL software still seems a whale of a bargain if u wish to use any other programs. I use the cd copy for music, video to transfer avchd to wma for tablet and registry cleaner. All work well.

Cheers
