Interesting post-race BBC article by Gary Anderson, he points out that Shanghai's layout doesn't totally suit cars that have optimised rear-end aero:
"... China is quite an unusual circuit. It has a lot of long corners and it is what they call front-end-limited - in that the front tyres wear out quicker than the rears.
"On that kind of circuit, the Coanda exhaust systems that all the top teams use to boost rear downforce are not as big an advantage.
"It is more of an advantage on a track where the car has more rear-end problems, and the team want to work the rear tyres less by getting more load into them - such as in Bahrain, where F1 is racing this coming weekend."

We are not seeing as much racing because everyone is having to be way too careful about them.
The formula should not become all about optimising the cars for deliberately hobbled tyres.
What next? Smaller brakes? Randomly appearing inflatable obstacles that can suddenly pop up out of the track without warning? Drivers facing backwards and driving purely with the aid of mirrors? Make the cars have to tow little trailers?

I have to agree with David Coulthard on this one and we need to see the cars been driven at their limit. This will bring about more engine and gearbox failures which are now a rarity. I'm not a fan of Red Bull and definitely not Vettel (although he is a talented driver). I don't know the solution, but, ultimately it is up to the teams to catch up to the lead team. The tyre situation is a poison chalice for Pirelli, I feel they are being blamed for this predicament, but they're doing what they've been asked. My thoughts would be to force the teams to use three compounds (hard, medium or soft) during the race, the tyres would be made with little degradation, the car could do 1 lap on that tyre if it chose, but at some point (unless they are forced onto wets) they would have to use all three compounds. Factors like weather, fuel weight and safety cars could all play a factor in this, never know it might even change the predictability of Monaco?
Alternatively have a group of marshalls with super soakers at the end of the pit straight squirting the passing drivers.

Don't recall Fangio, Clark, Lauda, Prost or Senna moaning when they had to drive with mechanical sympathy to preserve their tyres - and their brakes, gearboxes, clutches and engines. It's a freakin' Grand Prix, not a 15-lap sprint race!
Harder-compound tyres, as of Canada. Might as well give 'Finger Boy' the title now
Or even Mansell, publicly at least, being quite pragmatic about that time his Williams (?) ran out of fuel a hundred yards from the finish line and he tried to push his car over the line (can't remember the race or year, sorry). Or when he got run off the track by Schumacher, or ....
