Formula 1 - 2012 season
Not forgetting that startup teams like Virgin, Caterham etc. are looking for experienced drivers to give feedback to their engineers on the performance of the car. A rookie can't do this as effectively as someone who's driven in one of the top teams and knows what a good car feels like.
The Sky F1 channel is live.
Indeed it is - showing all sorts of interesting bits and pieces; worth a look if you're bored and can't wait for the season to start....
Good picture quality and sound on what they are running at the moment. I will definitely look at practise Friday morning. It will be like the old days with Eurosport except better quality I hope.
Has anyone seen this on their Sky Go App as yet? All the blurb says it will be showing on Sky Go but I don't have it in my channel list as yet?
I'm guessing that's coming after the official channel launch on Friday

Thanks Clare, I was hoping you'd say that
- hopefully it will work from the off (so to speak) as some of the Sky Go channel additions have been a bit "unpredictable"
I've put in a request for more info from Sky's PR - will let you know if/when I get details

Aww cheers for that - I'm most grateful
(I'll put you're name in the book under the "people who know people who know things" section)
Right, Sky has confirmed that the F1 channel will be added to Sky Go on the official launch date, 9th March
First proper prog is at 8pm on the 9th.
Sky F1 opening sequence, not as good as FWM The Chain but not bad.

Funny how they've gone for Alistair Griffin's Just Drive, which BBc F1 presenter, Jake Humphrey - a good mate of Griffin - spent lots of time plugging to get to no.1 last season, via his Twitter feed.
Even pics of Humphrey on stage with Griffin here:
Crikey, that's dull...

I think we'll see him move back up a little. He's maybe never going to challenge the front row again, but I don't think that should mean he should be punted. Again, if that was the criteria, we'd lose the majority of the grid.
And if journeymen have always been there, that shows it's the likely the way it has to be. Some of the pay drivers and/or their sponsors are crucial to the smaller teams. Some of the drivers are crucial to popularity in certain parts of the world. If we got rid of everyone bar the common podium finishers and replaced them with rookies, the sport would suffer, IMO.
Even looking at the young driver programmes, I don't see many coming through currently that seem as exciting as Hamilton, Hulkenberg or even Heikki were.
