Football question to BBB, Gel and others...
Given the dismal effort England produced against Montenegro, I read the other day a sports journo mention "Golden generation" has now petered out.
To rework a Monty Python line: "What have the golden generation ever done for us?" As far as I can remember, back to the "golden age" of the 70s & 80s - Brooking, Shilton, Keegan, Coppell, Lineker, Robson... wonderful club players, but couldn't seem to 'cut it' at international level. That sounds familiar.
Who were our "golden generation", and have they ever played for England?
Sick of hearing about so-called "golden boys" and need to accept that England have always been and will remain a average team.
Wish the media would remove their heads from their backsides and get real. True that smaller teams have won trophies, such as Greece (2004), Denmark (Euro 92). Perhaps we should take their lead rather than trying to reach unattainable heights or blaming influx of oversea's players.
