Elvis is Rubbish
And the music, TM?
The most overrated artist ever (in my opinion).
Solomon1:Whenever I feel bad, had a bad day or anything, I put on an Elvis record and soon will feel perfectly well again.
Elvis' vocal talent is incredible- pure, direct, emotionally communicative. It's a voice alive.
I feel almost sorry for anyone not recognizing this brilliance- and can only assume they either have never heard him through a quality hifi (when thinking he sounds bland, boring) or have a musical taste totally at odds with rock 'n roll.
John, those teenagers and/or mentally challenged monkeys you talked to really need to go out and discover the world.
I have a musical taste totally at odds with rock n roll. I can't abide any of it. Eddie Cochrane or whoever, it's just not funky, interesting, musical, involving or in fact anything. It's just noise.

I couldn't agree more
Paul McCartney. There's another one who's seriously overrated (lucky). Lennon was the talent.
Macca has been responsible for some classics like the frog chorus.
I do like Sgt Pepper though, and Revolver, White Album etc

Well some can argue that he recorded far too many songs! All his classic like well...you all know! has been re-released again and again and people (like me) will keep buying it again and again!
Admittedly some of his original albums (not the usual "best of...") has too many filler in! more so from his movies years. But even considering that he still has more hits than Madonna and Metallica put together!

Incidentally, I feel the same way about jazz....it just feels plain wrong, the timing is just off.

It would be interesting what you thought of some of my old faves then, such as Obituary, Death, Sepultura, Morbid Angel, and lighter stuff like Slayer, and Metallica.
For me, Opera is a non starter. It's one of the few genres I have never been able to get into, but I would never call it noise.
Arguing about musicians and their respective merits is always fruitless.
The subjectivity of human desire is one of the things that defines us.

No idea on the movie, but I'm kind of with you on the jazz thing. I try, honest I do. I get the genius of Jarrett and Davis but can't say I'd choose them as my listening of choice. One day it'll fall into place.
For me it's a bit like the feeling I get when listening to recorded classical stuff. I think that you have to be there to get it.

I bet you dont actually believe that. I am speaking as someone who doesn't really like Elvis so much, but he did influence future generations, massively, in both musical, and cultural ways.
So MOST, EVER. What about Boyzone?
King of Rock 'n' Roll? It's got to be Cliff Richard. Had far more influence than Elvis. Only thing Elvis ever promoted was jumpsuits and burgers (IMO) so definately influenced Liberace, Elton John and a host of other artists who I don't rate very highly.

I can't agree with you about Elton as he is a talent.
Sun Headline on the day he got married to Mr Furnish. 'Elton takes David up the aisle'. Qual!

Lucky? LUCKY? Suppose it was just chance him dashing off Yesterday, Hey Jude, Get Back, The Long and Winding Road, Let it Be and many, many, many more songs that'll be played long after you and I are in the ground.
I'Il admit his post-Beatles output has been patchy (but then again, there's been some class stuff that many other songwriters would be proud of - one of the best Bond themes among them), but then Lennon was hardly consistent either. Double Fantasy, anyone?

Good posting,
Elvis, at his prime, was everything greatest preformer should be....Voice, Looks, Charms, Witty and Style.
