I went to church today as my boy is singing in the service, he is only 5 (yes, I am an old dad) and I was quite enjoy the whole thing.

However when the father (the holy man...) was teaching about Easter I was quite shock about how violent the story lines were!!!!  Yes, I know it said in the bible that Jesus was left to die on the cross and all that but there must be the way to words it differently to suited to a group of 5 years old Angry   I was quite disturb by the story let alone my poor son....let hope he is not waking up with nightmare and disturb daddy's late night hifi listening time AMEN

rant over, thanks for reading

Re: Easter!

Just be honest with him...

Tell him it's all a fairy tale and actually no such thing ever happened and actually Church is just another brainwashing cult

That'll make him think. One of my boys goes to a Catholic School and it just makes me laugh the nonsense they teach

Funnily enough I had a dinner party the other night, when the wine got low I didn't go to the shop, I just turned the remaining two bottles into a new crate and some Tequila slammers. The fish was excellent too until I called my Teddy Bear Mohammed. All hell broke loose but it got worse when I decided to tell the Father (holy man) about my new speaker cables. "Impossible" he said, "Never heard anything quite so ridiculous..."

And just think of the subwoofer action when the veil of the temple is rent in twain.

Re: Easter!

JoelSim - many of yer more sophisticated "believers" would, of course, agree that its all just a story/fairy tale, that merely caters to mans need for myth and narrative, rather than a rival to science. The same applies to the evangelical atheism of the likes of Graphin, Dawkins, Dennet and Hitchens, according to the lucid works of John Gray. For those genuinely interested, i can highly reccommend his Black Mass. Available at all good book shops and Amazon, I'm sure. And no, i honestly have no connection to him.

Thanks. I'll probably give that a miss as the subject holds absolutely no interest for me whatsoever.

Re: Easter!

joelsim - cool, just wondered.

fr0g - pint? i think gray is a secular humanist, he just objects to the evangelism of the aforementioned authors, and thinks they are unaware of the parallels between their own beliefs and religion, especially the judaeo(?) Christian tradition. They also seem unaware that not all war was based on religion, but sometimes based on extreme atheism and EDITEDisation of science (Hitler anyone...?). Anyway, sorry. Most of me mates are'nt interested in this kinda thing. its lonely for us intulekchuals sumtimes innit?

I'll say anything for a Hob Nob (especially 'smock').

Re: Easter!

As long as people remember to retire for a cuppa and a biscuit when they start to get hot under the collar, nothing should be off limits. it can be kept good natured (tho i know i have occasionally drifted a little in the past). i used to enjoy all that seaonal ghod bothering as a kid. i hope yours isnt too traumatised!
