Dredd 3D - enjoyed it!
Frankly, I did not go in the cinema with any expectations, especially after the dull Sylvester Stallone one. It turned out to be a hugely enjoyable film! I haven't seen 3D being put to such good effect in a long time. There wasn't a boring moment in the film. Certainly one of the top 5 films I've watched this year. Beware of the gore.
Not surprised by its rating on Rotten Tomatoes at all:
Grauniad's review is only a single paragraph?? Surely the reviewer can write more than that!
I was a bit surprised at the relative lack of publicity for the film. Probably because it's certificate 18.
Hmm, the review I read was longer than that. I don't think it had the biggest budget and Dredd isn't that well known a character which might explain the lack of publicity.
Not well known! It stars Martin Shaw, right?
I'm going to go see it now bigboss, tbh I didn't fancy it but I'll go watch it now
Another brilliant review of the film:

The Raid is a great film........ but Dredd was written and in production before Gareth Evans started The Raid it just that he finished his film before Dredd.
I read some speculation that Evans was at one time was being persued for some sort of involvement in Dredd and was privy to the script before he did Raid.
I have a bit of history with 2000AD/Judge Dredd from my youth and i for one am really pleased we now have a bonafide Dredd movie Urban and the cast are great i loved it.
Based on the trailer I've seen, Karl Urban doesn't seem to have any presence as Dredd - I'm no Stallone fan, but he seems to come across better. But I'm seeing more and more threads/posts about how good this is, so looks like it is worth trying out. Maybe it'll be another Avengers - expected to be rubbish, but turns out a surprise hit.

Difference is Urban plays Dredd and nails it , Stallone plays himself. There is no comparison to Stallone's Dredd. This is a Dredd movie that plays like Dredd. The Look of the Stallone Dredd was good but the overall film poor. The new Dredd doesn't do full justice to the Lawmaster and the uniform but i can forgive that because i suspect it's due to budget constraints.
When i read John Wagner had given Dredd 3d his blessing "it's pure Dredd" my expectations raised and as it turns out exceeded them.
I just hope it does well enough for more.

Agreed. Karl Urban as Dredd is a lot more convincing than Sly.
Dredd doesn't need presence, just a gun. He's a non-character, that's what the first film didn't understand.
I haven't seen the film but the only thing that worries me is that Megacity One doesn't look futuristic enough but I guess that's a budget thing as well.

Depends on how you define "futuristic". They were meant to show a post-apocalyptic wasteland, & it seemed like one.

The filmmakers experimented with the visuals of Mega City One including the design and positioning of the city's tower blocks. They found that replicating the comic visuals of blocks close together, it made them appear small and lacking in scale and instead chose to give the buildings more space to emphasise the larger buildings and allow for the presence of roads and cars to allow for extrapolation outside of the picture.
Hmm, roads and cars? Like on the ground? Last time I redd Dredd (arf!) The roads and cars weren't on the ground. I'm not even sure most citizens know where the ground is in Mega City One.
Actually, I didn't think about it! They show the roads / cars only for the first 5 minutes or so. Rest of the film is in a building.

It's getting pretty decent reviews most places, I think even the Grauniad were broadly positive.
No signature worth mentioning...
