I work in IT support, the company I look after has finished for Christmas, so nothing is going wrong because nothing is being used and there are no Project Managers here to give me any projects to do, so there is, literally, nothing for me to do before the new year. And I'm here up to and including Christmas Eve...
I have a bunch of varying disciplined IT guys building my project with me until Jan 17th, they are all good guys, some are a little geeky, but bright as buttons all, though I have to say through experiance of working with the for twelve months there is not a project manager of worth amongst them.
IT and PM is in the Oxymoron zone for me!
No insult intended!
Would anyone know or care if you just went home?

I did, just before you wrote that. I had been in since before 7am mind...
I'm not surprised, in my extensive experience I've only ever met one PM of any worth if I'm honest, most of them are blustering charlatans who seem to actively impede the progress of a project rather than "manage" it.
I don't know why I'd be insulted, I never claimed to be a PM, I'd rather be anything than a PM frankly.
