Broadband-only deals - any suggestions??
My 2-year BT handcuffing contract has ended
Ideally, I'd like a broadband-only deal with no compulsory 'evening and weekend calls' extras - so that excludes BT and O2, for example - just the incoming line.
'Up to 16mb' would be good and unlimited is essential.
Any suggestions?

From my investigations recently, Tesco seem to offer the cheapest solution at the moment (though have to say, it wasn't an excruciatingly thorough review).
Bear in mind, unlimited isn't really unlimited with most providers (though there are some exceptions now I think) i.e. for Tesco, the Fair Use Policy means 100 GB per month tops.
+1 for Virgin if you can get it where you live.
Pretty sure they are unlimited but they do tend to throttle back at busy times, but just done a speed test and getting 16mb on a 20mb feed which is not bad at 7pm.
I moved from ADSL from Be Unlimited to Virgin 100Mbit/s in May and its been an absolute godsend. I used to only get 4Mbit/s on ADSL and now I get around 110Mbit/s with Virgin. Its not cheap but it is worth it in my opinion. Never had any issues or reason to call Virgin since I had it installed.
Not in a cable area - in sticks - and, it transpires, nor am I in an area that qualifies for Tesco, Plusnet or TalkTalk's 'cheap' deals
In effect, BT has a monopoly - plus ça change

We are on a NTL Virgin 50mb internet only deal and whilst it is not the cheapest available by a long way it is by far the best service I have had. Had the fibre optic connection for just over three years now and it has only gone down two or three times, longest outage was about 5 hours. On an unlimited internet deal but they do use traffic shaping during peak hours, only really noticeable if you are downloading loads of data during that time. Play alot of online games in the house so a reliable fast connection is a godsend.
