RE: Best drummer ever?

I can only presume that actual drummers are in the best position to answer this. Asking us non drummers to answer this question is like trusting an X Factor judge.

My suggestion might be a little mainstream for some tastes, but I'll put forward Dave Grohl. Why? Being the driving force behind a band that (arguably) gave birth to a new genre of music that died with the band is a good start. And as for Them Crooked Vultures, the ever changing and sometimes seemingly random drum patterns appear to be quite complex to me, so much so that it baffles me as to how they could be learned beat for beat in the first place.

I do agree with many of the suggestions so far though, so I'm not saying he is better than them - just throwing in an alternative Smile

Have you met him recently though? He has been trading on that one photo for quite a while now - for all we know he might now be 28 stone, and may have lost all that lovely blonde hair by now... Smile

Not sure about the best but definately brilliant Bryan Devendorf from The National should be taken into consideration. Listen to Brainy on The Boxer album. The drums make the song imho.

I'd have to say Thomas Pridgen - Did some drumming with The Mars Volta, and apparently was the youngest drummer to be sponsored by Zildjian...

This is true but I'm going to have a go anyway!

I've been listening to the track Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer a lot recently (the phone keeps playing it), I can't remember their drummer's name but some of the rolls he just seems to throw in with casual abandon are pretty impressive (to me at least), I keep repeating the track just to listen to the drumming, there aren't any other tracks I do that with.

RE: Best drummer ever?

Today my name is Simon Cowell and  those who know me round here will know the answer but for those who dont i judge Joey Waroker to be the best drummer of all time  excellent!

Early years with Beck also worked with REM, Paul McCartney, Johnny Cash, Leonard Cohen, Yusuf, and Tom Yorke to name just a few.

The last album he played on which i have is Norah Jones's Little Broken Hearts which a great in itself but Waronker takes to another level, but for some of his best work check Becks Modern Guilt.

Earlier drummers i'm in the John Bonham camp.

Now im off to have a smoke and cuddle up to Carmen  Star
