ive pretty much given up on WMP in burning my mp3s onto a data CD. is there any alternative (like a free software or something) to the Nero burning suite?

Is the reason that you dont want to buy Nero? It is what I consider to be the best, and easiest, Ive tried.

iTunes! Sombody hold me back ;(

If you just looking to burn Mp3's on to a CD, I'd have a look at MediaMonkey it's a great application for sorting/playing/burning your music collection and it's free.

Sorry for replying again, just reread your post

If your just looking to put Mp3's on to a data CD (presumable as a backup, or to be used in a drive that can play Mp3's straight off the CD), Windows will do that anyway without any software.

You just open your CD/DVD drive in My Computer, and then copy the files in, on the left you'll see a "Write these files to CD" link, click that and follow the wizard, and your done.
