Over the weekend I damaged my fingers. I thought I broke at least one finger and there's swelling across the whole hand. Alas no breaks just torn ligaments and tissue.

That'll teach me for picking my ooter. . . .

Re: A trip to the hospital

I fractured my middle right hand finger last year. Wasnt that bothered when I did it as it went 'numb'

But it hurt for 2 weeks. Sleeping was near impossible. id accidentally catch it in my sleep and wake up in agony Stick out tongue

That'll teach me for dropping a chunk of titanium on it.....

Picking your hooter and dropping titanium. This thread should be entitled 'what is the most silly reason you have ended up in hospital for'

While I was waiting 3 hours I was observing other coming into A&E, and it was like "Society for silly walks," shouldn't make fun, but it was fairly amusing. . . .

Re: A trip to the hospital

Last time I was in A&E it was the day after an Old Firm game. There were still football 'fans' milling around in their tops (both sides, I think the fight had finally gone out of them) with various wounds. It has to be just about the most pathetic sight I have ever seen. Casualty departments should have their own TV channel with live links so the public can vote to decide if someone actually gets treated or not. That would soon get rid of the timewasters.

Last time was Whitechapel A&E.  I will never run up steps with my hands in my pockets again...!

There was one chap in there who was attacked with a samurai sword.  He grabbed it, and his attacker yanked it out - severing all the tendons in his fingers.  Bet that hurt...

Tea cosies?

This has to be the stupidest....

"...the Exeter College student who was making Italian bread in a
breadmaker, but when it clogged the machine he proceeded to pull out
the dough with his hands, to free the mixing arm.

However, he
didn't switch it off, and once the clog was unblocked the mixer arm
swung into action - and broke his arm in four places. Nine weeks later,
the student was asked how he had managed to break his arm while making
bread. He felt obliged to demonstrate, so plunged his hand in - and
snap went his arm, again.
"

On the plus side, you didn't need plastic surgery...

I'll never forget when they were about to xray me to see what the damage was

This nurse asks for this old guy first who was obviously in pain

First she couldnt find his document so we were waiting for 20 mins on that. Then she called him in

He was clutching his side as he walked in. She was going to xray his leg (Of which there was NOTHING wrong). She wouldnt have it and was arguing with him that his LEG needed xraying!

Finally she realised she had the wrong paperwork Tongue Tied

I went in feeling a tad more anxious Stick out tongue

Re: A trip to the hospital

in  a rush to finish work one friday so i could have a night on the town(about 10 years ago)i just had to fit one more back box onto a wall fit the socket then off home to get ready.it was the type of back box that had no pre drilled holes(my boss was tight(oh hang on thats me))anyway, instead of finding a nice solid surface to drill the holes i thought it would be quicker to drill the holes while holding the back box.so drill in one hand back box in the other i drilled .unfortunatly it would seem i used a bit to much presure on the drill and drilled through the back box and my hand. the worse part was reversing the drill out again.

amazingly i managed to finish the job with my hand bleeding and wraped in a wet tea towel and drive home however had to take a trip to a & e as my hand was no longer moving.i then spent the next couple of nights in hospital having tendans reatached.

i got out of hospital monday morning and went straight to work.(never got my night out that weekend)

Re: A trip to the hospital

No A&E trips for me really (apart from a car crash when I was seven). My nine-year-old is another matter though - when she was two she was bouncing on the bed and fell off and cracked her head on the bakelite knob of the radiator, which embedded itself in her skull. She was bright as a button in casualty though, despite the back of her head looking like the kid out of the Sixth Sense.

And then there was the time when I managed to cut the end of her finger off in Caffe Uno on Teddngton High Street when I let the (rather heavily-sprung) door to the toilets close on her finger in the hinge side. Blood absolutely everywhere, staff trying rather ineffectually to staunch the flow, when she holds up the other hand and says "it's this one"...

So she's two general anaesthetics up on me...

Re: A trip to the hospital

Touch wood I have only needed A&E once in my life and in my defence it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Lets just say it involved an old shopping trolley and a basketball court. Ok that doesn't sound very dangerous but the 10ft drop landing on my wrist did me no favours at all. After about 30 mins the top of my hand and wrist looked as if someone had stuck half a cricket ball under my skin. Not to mention the shakey hand and arm situation and the fact I was feeling sick and nearly passing out.

I thought it was just a bad sprain but my friends dad used to be a doctor and took one look at it and said "you better get down A&E and get that x-rayed". Now there was only about 10 people in A&E when I arrived so I thought this is going to be quick, 10 flippin hours later I finally got my x-ray and I had broken my wrist.

There must of been about 20 doctors there in A&E with 18 of them on an extended 9 hour lunch break, seriously it looked like the last day of term when you where at middle school. If you ever managed to make eye contact they would just look guilty and run off, maybe I caught them on a bad day. To make matters worse I had to go back the next day to get my cast, another 3 hours wait.

Turned out that I was quite lucky as when I explained what happened the doctor he was expecting alot more damage. At the time I had my 1st real job with terrible wages, so I ended up having the full 6 weeks off and in the middle of summer as well. So it wasn't all bad Smile

Let that be a warning kids, don't run and jump off a trolley to dunk a basketball and hang on to the ring. All that happens is your body overtakes you until horizontal and then you loose your grip on the ring and fall 10ft to the hard concrete below. Seriously just leave it to the professionals Indifferent
