A Fine Day Out
Up at 6-00, out the door at 6-30.
Hour and a half's drive to the heliport, light traffic, weather cool, so I'm not worried the car's A/C hasn't worked for donkey's.
Arrive at the heliport and the pilot is having a smoke outside. Have a smoke with him. Turns out he's half Norwegian, half Icelandic and lives in Dallas (go figure).
Get the front seat next to the pilot and me and my boss (and the pilot of course) fly out to a platform in the Gulf of Mexico. Perfect weather, little or no wind and a nice easy touchdown.
Platform safety briefing is done in a flash because it's lunchtime and it's steak AND shrimp today.
Put on 5lbs eating lunch.
Tool around the deck, figure out the problems we're going to have putting two skids on the platform next month and back on the chopper, front seat again (boss asleep in the back).
Home at 3-30.
And they pay me for this?
