4gig ram but only 2 gig in bios and windows
iv have just put 2x2gig of ram in my pc (i only asked for 2x1 gig as mother board usser guide said but man in shop said it would work)and it does work and seems faster but would it be faster with 2x1gig or will there be no diferance or is there away of making the 4 gig kick in.
when you say 32 bit is that the components or os(i have no idea)if its wrong will it matter will my 4 gig be the same as 2 in speed terms
sorry not explaning very well what i want to no is will the 4 gig be as fast as the 2
if so i can keep the 4 gig and make sure my next upgrade can handle the extra memory unless this 4 gig will slow my current setup down
cheers
Hi,
If motherboard user guide recommends a maximum of only 2 x 1gig then the motherboard will never recognise anymore than that.
I have 3 gig of RAM - I believe Windows XP will only recognise 4 gig. Vista is required for more.
Cheers,
Cofnchtr.
just looked in computer info system type 32 bit os
just did a performance test and the memory ram scores 4.2
is that good?
If you have a 32 bit operating system like (vista/xp)you will only get a maximum of 2 gig of memory however much ram you put in.
4 or 8 gig of ram will only be used/shown on a 64 bit OS eg 64 bit vista.
pcs just done an emergancy dump(i think thats what it said)now it will not start
just replaced the 2x2 gig with with the 2x512mb and it leting me do start up repair
i cant belive the bloke sold me the wrong ram i even took the motherboard usser guide in with me and showed it to him he told me the 2x2gig would work better .i did leave the shop a little worried but i thought he must be an expert.
all seems to be working ok now with the old memory
It's not the motherboard it's the OS see my answer above.
yep all is ok back to running vista at snail pace

It will do, 32 bit vista will not show more than 2 gig, however much ram you put in.
If you had a 64 bit OS you would then have a choice to run either 32 or 64 bit in the bios.
EDIT There may be 32 bit only motherbboards which i didn't realize & must apologize, it's something i'll have to check out, i thought it was OS dependant, however i have had a look at a few MB & some say 64 bit processor built in, i don't know your MB so couldn't say.
If you exchange the ram you can only go as high as 2 gig.

Im sorry but thats incorrect. 32bit will allow upto 3.5 (4 in total but around 0.5 gig is used for video ram)

If you've got four gig & it's only showing two gig, you need to go into the bios & change from 32 bit to 64 bit.
If your computer is 32 bit it will not show more than 2 gig of ram.
Hope this helps.
