350 litres
Today I watched the bloke in front of me put 350 litres of unleaded into an Audi A4 (at a cost of nearly £460). Presumably he must have extended the fuel tanks into the boot. I shudder to think of the size of the bang if that lot went up after an accident.

You probably know if it's a full tank, petrol won't combust.
Did you see him start from 0 litres? Might have filled up a couple of cars?

Yep. An empty tank is more explosive.
350 litres would just about fill mine up. And I mean fill it up to past the windows..

No. He started from scratch as I was queing behind him. First he emptied a small bottle of red liquid in. Then he used something to wedge the trigger on the nozel open and stood back and watched. When it got to about 100 litres I thought to myself "I didn't know an Audi took that much more fuel than my Golf". I then sat and watched amazed as another 250 litres went in. And for good measure he got out a mobile phone and proceeded to have a chat while he waited for it to finish.
Seems pointless.
I can understand filling up with 350 litres where fuel is cheap, if you are about to tour a country where it is very expensive. (To save money or to sell it for profit.)
Oh well. If we see news reports of riots where (seven hundred) petrol bombs are thrown, then I just hope you got his registration number
I've recently bought a new bath. It's 1700x700mm and takes around 115 litres of water.

To confound anyone trying to trace the source of the fuel?
his fuel economy would nosedive with all that extra weight.
According to the Audi web site the max fuel tank capacity on all A4's is only 64 - 65 litres depending on what model you have. Impossible.
Miggs
I would be more worried about the poor handling and brakingmaxflinn:his fuel economy would nosedive with all that extra weight.
350 litres is 77 gallons.
Some lorry tanks don't hold that.
350 litres is just over 12 cubic feet, the boot of an A4 is 12 cubic feet. Any extra tank stored there would make handling horrific once the contents started to slosh around. Unless of course it was well baffled, but then you'd need even more room.

Wow. I really can't understand why and how!
350 litres of petrol according to my calculations weighs 257KG. Thats like carting round three and half people in the back of your car.

Hi,
There wasn't a puddle after he left? There used to be a cut off on the pumps at around 100 litres.
A tank that size would fill his boot - a truck holds around the 400 litre mark...
Cheers.
