15% VAT
So, will this make you rush out and buy a bigger telly next Monday?
JohnDuncan:Or is it offset by your tax going up to 45%?
for £150k/y? I wish!
JohnDuncan:So, will this make you rush out and buy a bigger telly next Monday?
No, but my strategy of being pressied-up by the end of November looks to have been the wrong one. Must have cost me, oh 20 quid.ÿ
2.5% saving doesn't make me rush out to buy anything!

I just watched Darling's delivery. Hilarious that the announcement of the VAT drop was accompanied by boos and hisses, like no one knew it was coming!
I'm no economist but I don't think that he is looking at people like us buying tvs and cd players etc., rather than the poor who WILL spend the extra couple of quid in their purses/pockets if they have it. Fags, alcohol, frozen pizza, that sort of thing.
Gerrardasnails:Fags, alcohol
Which have gone up to compensate for the VAT reduction. Go figure.

Yep, he didn't even hide that very well. However, if your lowly paid person goes to the Supermarket and can save £3 on their weekly shop, they will spend the rest on fags and drink. If we saved £5 on our shop, we would just keep hold of it.

Nope.
But it may make me look more favourably on getting a van.........Maybe.........

Only until enough of those fivers add up to the price of 'a little upgrade'.ÿ
JohnDuncan:Or is it offset by your tax going up to 45%?
Yeah. All us Openreach engineers earn over £150k.......We just go to work 'cos we love it so........
spending plans remain unchanged....just wont spend anything until next week...
Lets be honest most company/trades/business would Gladly knock 2.5% off for a Sale.
Now to really get Sales fired up !! 0% vat.

15% is the lowest it's allowed to be. What would really get people to spend is if the government forced the credit card companies to have a 10% ceiling on all their variable apr rates.
Thats Europe sadly

I'm not sure wether you are trying to be humorous or not. If you are I apologise. However if you are being serious, do you actually think that all "poor people" want to spend their disposible income on is fags drink and a quote from your other post "frozen pizza". I find your sweeping and completely foundationless insuations that people who aren't well off are all some kind of Wanye and Wanyetta Slob caricatures highly offensive. Being poor isn't fun, clearly you have never experienced it or you wouldn't be making such stupid comments.
