Synology nas ip address
Looking for some help. I only know a smidgen about networking so any replies need to be at a basic level
I had to reboot my modem to reconnect to the Internet and now my NAS has a new ip address. I have managed to guess it but it now means I have change xbmc settings on my ATV2. This is a big chore and I'd like to try and prevent it from happening again, as it's not the first time it's happened.
I suspect the NAS has dynamic ip address and then the modem has reassigned it a new one, perhaps? If that is the problem is there a way of assigning it a static ip? is that done from the modem or in NAS? It's a Thompson Gateway from plusnet modem and DS212j running DSM 4.0
Thanks very much
XBMC needs to know the IP address of your NAS? That's daft.
I connect via smb (I think) so to access the movie folder it needs to know the network address and folder name. I may not be using the correct terminology.
Check this video. This explains well.
Thanks Bigboss, I'll reconfigure it using synology assistant, very helpful.
Chisy
This sounds like what u need to connect via hostname rather than ip
