disappointed
English

I know this topic has been discussed at length both here and all over the internet, but, for what it's worth...

I've been using an 8gb shuffle docked to a JBL Onbeat Xtreme for months and have been really happy with the SQ (Apple Lossless files, of course). Anyway, I took the plunge, last weekend, and bought myself a 160gb Classic. I've got to say, I ain't blown away by the sound of the Classic. Distortion, brittle highs and woolly lows. Vocals seem to stay inside the speakers. I'm really surprised and not a little disappointed.

When an ipod is attached to a dock, isn't the pod's internal DAC bypassed? If it is, why is there a difference in SQ when comparing the two devices? Isn't the pod just feeding data for the dock to convert?

As mentioned, I know this topic rages on and on all over the www, but I'm just a little bemused...

RE: disappointed

It used to be the case that very few docks bypassed the iPod's DAC. I don't think that's changed...

RE: disappointed

Thanks for the info, Alec. I got a refund on the Classic - really couldn't live with it.
