Can anyone tell me of any way to convert FLAC files to mp3 on the fly? I was using Apple Lossless and iTunes but ALACs somewhat limited compatibility with other media players led me to switch to FLAC and J River Jukebox. My old ipod has also just given up up the ghost so I'm going to use my HTC Desire and get a bigger memory card.
iTunes had the option for transcoding to mp3 when syncing to iPod. I can't see the option on Jukebox, would the paid for Media Centre have that option? I have read that Media Monkey can do it although I think that may be in the paid for version as well? Any other programs that do it?
I don't want to maintain two libraries and would prefer the on the fly option.

RE: MP3/MP4

Try Winamp.  I'm pretty sure you can 'force transcode' for files over a user-definable bitrate.    Its a free download.

Added bonus - you can get Winamp for Android, which is a media player.  With it you can sync your HTC Desire with your PC wirelessley.  This is what I have done.  However its very very slow at syncing wirelessley on my setup.  Maybe it was just slow the first time, when I added a load of tracks though.

It lets u stream ur music collection (inc flacs) from ur pc to ur android phone over Wifi or 3g.
