Does anyone know why sonos doesn't support 24/96 files?, is it the hardware or software limitation? or is it the network limit?. I've seen sonos has now reduced the price of bridge by 50% wondering if new bridge is around the corner.

Has anyone compared the SQB touch SQ with Sonos Zp90? if I use optical out from either to feed a decent dac then does the SQ matters, according to WHF sonos sounds better then SQB touch but wondering if I am not using internal dac of either then that comment is still valid.

Thanks.

RE: MP3/MP4

It's a hardware limit. The output is actually 24-bits wide, however 8-bits are used for volume control, to avoid affecting the sound quality when using the Sonos volume adjustment (up to a point, if you lower the volume beyond a certain point it will starting altering the digital signal and thus affecting the quality).

A new bridge would not affect the ability to play 24-bit files, it would probably require a complete hardware refresh and even then 24-bit files would still not play on older models, which is something Sonos have always sought to avoid.

RE: MP3/MP4

Thanks LHC, it answers my first question but I am still searching for second question on SQ comparison between ZP90 and SQB Touch. WHF review of SQB Touch states that ZP90 is more musical then SQB Touch but doesn't clarify SQ on ZP90 is better because of DAC inside ZP90 or something else, I did some search on SQB Touch and my impression is it has the same quality DAC as DacMagic.

Also, if I use optical out from either Sonos or SQB to feed external DACs' like Regadac or Cyrus DAC XP then does the SQ matters.

Arguably not, if you only need one zone then I'd go for the Touch for the 24-bit support, otherwise the Sonos multi-room capabilities are far better, assuming your budget stretches to that.

Re the SQ. when I got my Dac Magic I had a test of it with a Sonos. and it made an improvement. It also did on my SB3. but with my Touch it makes no difference. So to me that says the SB Touch has better DACs than the Sonos for me.
