is there a dac in an ipod shuffle?
just curious.... anyone?
How else does the music reach your ears?
God, if I'm wrong I'll hang my head in shame.
Ha ha, three identical replies in no seconds flat!
Yes, and they are all made by HSBC (a Government owned garage exclusively manned by ex tank mechanics.)

Digital files need to be converted to analogue for sound to be heard. Digital to Analogue Converter - DAC
yea i thought there was, it's obviously extremely small yet does the job just fine. i wonder why the likes of the dacmagic, vdac etc cost so much money considering they only contain a few inputs and a tiny dac chip? there must be big money to be made from dacs...
More earth-shatteringly acute observations to follow.
i bet you googled that...chebby:Yes, and they are all made by HSBC (a Government owned garage exclusively manned by ex tank mechanics.)
It's now hard to tell whether this is an extended wind-up.
so you weren't sure? i was pretty sure..datay:How else does the music reach your ears?
God, if I'm wrong I'll hang my head in shame.

Usually is...
Think this one may be headed for a rant about what a rip-off standalone DACs are when an iPod shuffle already has a DAC built-in and costs not very much at all.
Would get the comfy chair and popcorn, but have a bus to catch...
not a rant andrew, i'm just curious..
digital audio data is a numerical representation of the analogue signal, a dac converts the digital data to analogue, i presume therefore that for different dacs to sound, well, different, that they must add some colouration? to give them their "house sound" if you will?
Here we go again...
Andrew Everard:Here we go again...
spot on with the prediction Andrew...don't suppose you have an inkling about the lottery tonight by any chance...?

Of course. If there wasn't you wouldn't get any sound out through the headphones.
