Hmmm.....quite an interesting device. I'm assuming it's also compatible with Microsoft Office. I see this for a different use as well: in place of a laptop to carry your documents & presentations to work etc. Can you connect it to a projector? How many USB slots does it have? Is the memory expandable?

I'm sure it's $699 for the 64GB version & not $600 printed in your report.

$829 for the 64GB/3G version. Hope that does not translate to £829.

My prediction is this is one product which will fail miserably unlike other recent Apple products, you can visit this thread in one years time and will acknowledge my observation. Who wants to pay 699$ for 32 GB SSD and 1GH processor and on top of that 130$ for 3G ! when I can get a blue-ray enabled Sony vaio 13" with top of the line intel iSeries processor with  8GB ram and 1TB hard disk for same price in June'10 which will be .5 inch thin and weigh less then 2lb.

Sorry, that's what our man in the city by the bay gave us - think he must have got over-excited. Now corrected.

A stand would be nice as it would make a great table top remote/browser. Bit like a Soloos Also a hell of a lot cheaper than a top of the range pronto. Future App perhaps? All that would be needed is an wf-fi to IR converter at your rack.

But Apple already has excellent laptops....

Personally I love the 'big iPod Touch' approach:I adore my Touch, but its screen simply isn't big enough for anything other than brief video-viewing/reading - the iPad has so many more possibilities as a mobile media viewer.

Seen Avatar, where they take the glass slate out of its dock and carry it across the office?! The ipad has to be the way things are going - 5-10 years down the road who will want to be using a laptop if you can do everything on a glass slate? Like others though I'm disappointed the ipad hasn't gone further and been a standalone laptop replacement rather than a a big ipod touch/phone - still it will make things a lot easier to watch/read and for that alone I think it will have a market. Make it into a Mac and I think laptops will be history (maybe Apple aren't themselves ready for that yet?!)

Surely not. Just think of what working like that will do to your neck and back.

There will be a keyboard and dock/stand available for the iPad, but then a laptop seems more convenient. As far as input goes, tablets are only useful for taking short notes, filling out checklists, forms etc.
