Manchester Show
I can't make this show. When's Bristol?
I spent far too much time in the Kef room watching and listening to the Fender Guitar tribute concert. Joe Walsh, Gary Moore and in particular Dave Gilmour sounded stunning.

Andy Clough:mwjdavies:Just got back from the show, saw some great stuff there, and nice to see the lovely Claire in personWhat about the lovely Andys?

I was at the show this afternoon for about an hour & a half to two hours, & saw the lovely clare & angelina & dominic dawes at the snax bar, but i didn't see anybody called andy.
BTW i went round the whole show & i still haven't got a clue who the award winners were.
Hi,
Any news on the new cyrus product launch? Word on the street is it's a new 4 box CD player...
Rob.
i was all set to go, had train tickets bought, on me ten days off perfect!!.was looking forward to get the awards mag. but ive gone and got the flu. tickets still on the side at £46 wasted. A couple of Qs : when is the next show and when can i get me hands on the awarwds mag.
The award winners were in that huge glass case behind where they were selling the mag & the TV's were lining the wall where you queued up for the demo.

Bristol, in February; October 20.
At the show today. What stood out for me the most was the proac speakers, the naim suite & the sugden suite was absolutely awesome. Another one that stood out was the suite with Art speakers, playing some vinyl on the townsend turnable (wow...goose bumps). As fas as home cinema, JVC's projector demo was brilliant. Unfortunately, what hi fi demo was too short but what I did like about it was the professional presentation & how good the wizard of Oz looked on blu-ray. All in all it was a good show.
Sadly I didn't find the show to be all that good. ÿI was particularly disappointed with What Hi-Fi, who are advertising a 'Chord Company Super Screen mains cable' as a subscription gift in the actual Show Guide and online, but when I arrived at the stand there was no such offer. ÿSo I ended up with a HDMI cable that I don't need. ÿNot pleased at all.
There was plenty to see and many people on hand to answer questions, on all of the stands. ÿHowever, I would say to anybody seriously looking to invest in new equipment to visit a local specialist. ÿMany exhibitors confessed that they had not been able to correctly set up equipment and as such it was mostly on display, 'out-of-box'. ÿAlso unless it was already set up as the demo it was not possible to get to audition different products, which is important when choosing new equipment. ÿPlus with all of the background noise and activity it was not truly possible to gain useful insight into much at all. ÿIt is a good opportunity to see the different products and maybe work out a shortlist of what to audition at a dealer if your not sure.ÿ
Um'd and ah'd last week whether to go as I live in Hampshire and it would be a day return
Decided at the last minute, and splashed the cash on a train ticket (got back about an hour ago).
It's the first time I have been to a show of this kind, but was a teeny bit disappointed as I didn't get to see the exact set-ups I wanted to. Other wise, it was a good experience................got to see Clare too.
Sorry Andy, didn't recognise you.
There was loads of other gear to see though, and I'm moving up on the learning curve. ![]()
Will try to make an effort to see the Bristol show now.
Me too - thoroughly enjoyed it - perhaps a few less stands than Bristol but good non the less
I'd like Naim to demo shall we say real world kit like the 5i and XS rather than having 10k + 5k items !! - it sounds brilliant - but then again a lot of stands do the same because they want their kit to sound really amazing
I've said before one of the best reasons for going to a show is that you can listen to kit without feeling obliged to buy. At dealers of course they are really helpful but you know as well as they do that at the end of a demo they would "quite like" you to make a purchase
One other observation - have you noticed the ration of men to women at those shows - I'd say 95% of the people there were men + a few spouses and girlfriends - its a shame but hi-fi does appear to be quite a minority sport don't you think ![]()
I agree with the observation regarding gents to ladies but what was interesting for me that the age group was middle aged and above. I felt a lot of the gents that attended were mostly older than 30 and quite a proporation in the 50+ age group. Came to conclusion it was them that had the disposable income to spend.

What about the lovely Andys?
