Winding up Tandy's sales staff.. Oh I do miss those days..!!
Those were the days, eh?
When you could walk into a deserted Tandy Store (which they were, pretty much all the time) and ask if you could listen to a nightmare'ishly horrid RadioShack stereo - and while the sales person is standing there trying to tell you how nice it sounds, you are pulling a 'scared' face before you retort with incredibly detailed and audiophilic reasons as to why it's perhaps the most horrible and pointless collection of cheap electronics that you think you have ever heard in your life.
And watching their face as you do so...
Horrible aren't I?
Naaah. Good riddance Tandy, may you rest in peace.
Tandy was OK. It was useful for getting little bits and pieces that were hard to find elsewhere.
Anyway, Maplin is only the same thing really.
Andrew Everard:You should hear what they called you after the shop door closed behind you...
I probably deserved all the names they called me.. At the time I was just this little spotty teenager showing off and being a total arrogant git...
I was only referring to the nasty Radioshack branded stereos and what not anyway. Yes, Tandy was useful for buying a whole host of little leads and adapters and little bits that you just couldn't get elsewhere - and I bought a good few bits there myself. Does that make me duplicitous in my regard for Tandy? Guilty as charged.. Oh well..
Guess there wasn't much to do in your area when you were a teenager then? ![]()
