Anyway, getting back on topic...

I also remember when all record decks, amplifiers and speakers sounded the same, so I spent thousands on expensive gear because I was gullible. Oh, and I also kept my records clean because I didn't realise that jam and fag-ends sounded as good as a well recorded, well-pressed LP.

What an idiot I was!!

speculatrix:

... and you didn't get stupid products like Denon's ethernet cable and rediculously priced interconnects because the customers weren't gullible idiots.

now it seems anyone can dress up a digital cable and pretend it somehow improves a digital data stream

so, I've not bought a hifi mag in years. WHS&V, you are part of the problem

That's correct, in the same way that Tropicana orange juice tastes the same as freshly squeezed Tesco Finest. Both are from ranges with nothing added so they must taste the same. Right?

Re: I remember when hifi afficionados understood technology

Reading the start of this  thread I thought I was on the wrong forum - reminiscent of Apple fan boy forum....

Re: I remember when hifi afficionados understood technology

thought I would put the op's theory to the test.

So replaced my speaker cables with bell wire.

Music now sounds rubbish but the doorbell has never sounded so magnificent.
