Fishing for info on classic/vintage/old gear
Just wondering whether anybody ever owned any of the following, and what your impressions were:
Yamaha CA-710 integrated amplifier;
Audiotronic LT4040 tuner - I believe this is Lasky's own-brand;
Mordaunt Short Festival Series 2 speakers.
In the absence of sufficient dosh to invest in modern gear, I've taken to buying up oldies-but-goldies. The items above stand me at around £30, and all have been bought via Ebay within the last month. Frighteningly they give my c.1998 Marantz gear a good whupping.
I had a pair of MS Carnival 2 speakers once. Very nice speakers.
Back in the days when they were built by hand in Durford Mill (near Petersfield in Hampshire) rather than spat out of a machine somewhere in China with a badge that claims some sort of common lineage.
If you can find a nice 'minty' pair of Festival 2's that have been well cared for, they should be very enjoyable in the context of what you are trying to do.

I'm not at all surprised. Some vintage gear is incredible and has a certain magic that modern kit can't match. Enjoy!

Not heard these makes - but strongly recommend my old Pioneer SA-706. It's a barnstorming amp and remember RRP back in the mid-70's was a tad below £200. Can still be found ocassionally on ebay. Highly recommended.
Leema Pulse MKII-S; Naim CD5i MKII; Denon TU-260L MKII; MA RS6 speakers; Pro-ject Xpression 1; loads of different cables...
