Does anyone know of an excellent DVD recorder that also plays music to a high standard.  I am thinking of buying the Sony 870, but don't know how good it will be playing normal cds.  I just want a 'one' box solution that I can watch, listen and record without too much compromise.  Budget around £400.

Re: DVD Recorder

We'd never claim that a DVD recorder is better for music playback than a dedicated CD player, but you might want to consider the new Sony RDR-HXD970 (£375) which can store up to 999 CDs on its hard drive.

It also has a handy jukebox icon, enabling you to rip music stored on any USB device (iPod, laptop etc) to the hard drive. It's a very fine DVD player/recorder, too.
