Curious to see what your prices are like in Cape Town. My local shop is willing to trade in my RXV3800 for the RXV3900, i've only had the RXV3800 for 6 weeks.

What does your system consist off?

Hi Charl,

You seem to be sold on Yamaha sound. I am thinking of Yamaha 3800 too. I wonder what you find wrong with it or what's better on Yamaha 3900 that make you want to switch ?

Thanks,

Neeraj

Hi Neeraj,

Nothing wrong with the 3800, very happy with it. I upgraded from the 1800 because of the network capabilities of the 3800, at that stage i didn't know when the 3900 would become available so i chose the 3800 that my local sound shop had in stock. The 3900 upscales HDMI and has 2 HDMI out connections for use with my projector and plasma.

THe 3800 is a great amp and you won't go wrong getting one.

Hi Charl, My system consists of:

Onkyo 606

Panasonic TH-42PV70

Infinity Primus Speaker Package

PS3 - 60Gb

Supra Speaker Cables

Monster HDMI

I am looking to upgrade the onkyo 606 as it is not as musical as my previous Yamaha receiver, but infortunately the dealer that I bought it from is no longer a Yamaha dealer,so my next bet would be the Denon 1909,which is second to the DSP 863.The Onkyo is great for Movies though, so I have also condsidered buying a stand alone CD player. Does anyone have this set-up and how does it work for you?

Hi Neeraj,

No problem. I haven't demod the AX863. The 3800 and 1800 are very similar but i prefered the 3800, really good. For music in the pure direct mode it was awesome as well.

 Cheers

Hi, I used to live in South Africa when I was a kid. A long time ago now but I used to live in Pietermaritzburg which is about 50k away from Durban. I've been to East London before for a few days on the way to Cape Town. Took along time to drive in the car all the way down the coast. Lovely part of the world from what I can remember. Even after all these years I still miss the beach at Durban. I would love to go back on holiday one day.

Durban is great place but the humidity got me, great place for holiday. East London is very laid back. The garden route down to Cape Town is a lovely part of the country and a lot of my clients travel down to Cape Town by car and fly out from there. They always raved about how scenic the route is. Makes for a awesome holiday.

I am originally from Durban being living in Cape Town for the last 10 years now and loving every minute of it. Although I spent most of my life in Durban, I never quite got used to the humidity as well.Might be going back there on holiday in December.
