I im currently running my sound through stereo using AE Neo 3 floorstanders paired with a old cambridge audio amp, I am thinking about getting the Sony AV receiver: STR-DH800.  And buy the AE Neo V2 Subwoofer. Thus giving me a 2.1 set up, I will evenutally then get the other speaker package when money is available.

Mr question is will this make a Huge difference to the sound. ?

Yes, for starters having a centre channel speaker will boost dialogue - which I have consistently found a problem for playing movies in stereo sound.

So to answer, if you'll get an AV amp, do not try 2.1 but try 3.1 - most centre channel speakers can be placed with ease without intruding on space.
