Which speaker cable to use for the rear surround speaker's.
Hello to everyone i have a question that i hope someone will help me out. I have bought a new PIONEER SC-LX82 a/v amp and i am using the CHORD EPIC SUPER TWIN to bi-amp my front and center speaker's. The speaker's i am using are the MONITOR AUDIO BRONZE BR5 5.1 cinema speaker package which comprises of rear di-pole's so therefore i need to know if i should stick with the same manufacturer as i used for the front's CHORD'S speaker cable's but the cheaper ley line or the silverscreen or should i go for the QED silver anniversary or similar priced cable.Would my system sound more balanced if i used the same manufacturer's cable but the cheaper cable for the surrounds or not. Also is there any point in me spending more than £5 per meter on cable for the rear's because as i have stated before i am using CHORD'S EPIC SUPER TWIN which cost's roughly around £90 per meter. Sorry to go on and on. Thanks
Due to the very long runs I needed and the cost that would be to use a well known brand (And I certainly couldnt afford the reference cables I have to my front 3), id personally recommend a nice long run of MAPLINS own speaker cable
You are right in saying that it's better to stick with one manufacturer so therefore as i am using the CHORD EPIC SUPER TWIN for the front and center speaker's i think i might buy some CHORD LEYLINE cable which is quite cheap and also quite thin so therefore easier to lay under the carpet or hide. I was thinking of buying the CHORD CARNIVAL SILVER SCREEN but it's just too thick a cable so therefore not really suited to surround sound speaker's and this is the reason why i considered the QED SILVER ANNIVERSARY CT cable because as the CHORD LEOLINE it's quite thin so it's more easily managed but it cost's more so therefore should sound better than the CHORD LEOLINE but then if i use the QED cable i will be using a two different manufacturer's cable which is not really a good idea because as you state the general consensus is to stick with the same manufacturer for all the the speaker cable. Thank's for the advice.Big Chris:The consensus is to stick to a single manufacturer for all speaker cable if at all possible.
Many people use a cheaper cable for the surrounds if cost and/or size is an issue. Keep all 3 front speakers using the same cable though (which it looks like you already are).

What keep's on bugging me is that if i do use cheap cable for the rear's then i might be compromising the sound and not letting the rear's show their real talent. I know that the front 3 speaker's should sound fine because of the expensive cable that i am using but if i use really cheap cable than i might end up with great sound from the front 3 speaker's and complete rubbish from the rear's in other word's my system might not sound balanced.
Way I see it is this, try the Maplins for a LOT less cost. Dont confuse cheap with poor. Maplins are highly regarded as using very good quality copper and connections
I bet your £90 a meter can really be made for about £15 a meter. But hey, you pays your money
How long a length are we talking?
Yes, the Leyline will be fine.
Maplin have a good oxygen free cable for a fraction of the price of these fancy cables. Rear speakers are for the effects and you will not notice any difference
The longer the cable you have to run to the speakers the thicker it should be, not the other way round. For rear surrounds of 15m and above you would have the best transparency with a 10-12 gauge cable.
