Which Audio Cable ? Connecting PC to Panasonic Viera
English

Hi

Firstly, I posted a similar topic a while back but I still havent been able to connect it properly, so I am trying again but with some more detail this time.

My PC is Windows 7 and the tv is a Panasonic Viera - one of the TX series.

Visual - I have a HDMI cable that connects from the PC to the TV to display the picture. However this is NO HDMI slot on the pc so I have to attach a converter to the cable so it will connect to the monitor slot.

When I attach the cable I get a message saying that the cable will not give me audio so I need another cable.

This is the problem - which cable. The TV has cable holes as well as HDMI slots, so I initially bought some cables : 3.5mm male stereo jack to jack audio cable - didnt work; 3.5mm jack to 2 x RCA audio cable - didnt work.

Maybe the problem isnt the TV but the PC ?

Anyway - does anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks

Your problem probably arises because you cannot select hdmi video and analogue sound input at the same time.

If your tv has a standard analogue 'pc' input for video, look to see if there is a corresponding sound input next to it.

Use a standard analogue monitor cable and a suitable analogue sound cable to make the connections.

If you cannot do this, can you upgrade the pc video card to one that outputs video and sound over HDMI?

In the TV's intructions for connecting to a PC, there is a diagram showing the back of the TV with cable running off it :

- there is an AV2 cable that came with the TV that has some kind of green plug with 2 ends which connects to the sound slot, and that has 2 sets of leads running off it : white and red, and red, green and blue. The white and red are shown as attaching to another lead that links to the PC. Now I bought some leads that do connect to the white and red but they didnt produce any sound - maybe the wrong colour ? The manual doesnt actually say which leads I would need, it just has the diagram.

- the video cable seems to attach to a kind of monitor port in the back of the TV, but using the HDMI cable appears to bypass this.

Red & White is normally audio (White left Red right)

The Red, Green & Blue connectors are normally the Component Video input, which as it does not carry audio needs to add 2 more connections (White & Red) to input the sound.

A green coloured Jack Plug is the usual colour used to indicate that it is to be plugged into the speaker output of a computer sound card.

You will need to check in your TV manual to see which input can have the analogue (White & Red) assigned to it and use these connections to connect your laptop.

Hope this helps

Bill

From the diagram in the handbook, the green jack goes in the back of the tv and the white and red need to connect to another lead, which has 2 plugs to connect to the white and red. But it doesn't say which colour or which lead type I need.

I get you now, the connectors are not fixed on the TV like most manufactures, but use special adaptors to make wall mounting easier.

Once the adaptors are plugged into their respective sockets on the TV, treat the other end as if they were fixed permanently to the TV.

There are just too many combinations to sort it out without the manuals (Or at least what the actual models are) however one that should work with most computers and TVs is a VGA to component lead to connect the video output of the computer to the component input on the TV, and 3.5mm stereo jack to 2 phono plug lead to connect the computer sound output to the Red & White terminals next to the component input.

If you only have an HDMI output on the computer then connect it to the TV, click the Windows start button and in the search box type “Connect to an external TV” and click on the appropriate wizard that comes up.

Hope this helps, however the information you have posted is vague so it cannot be guaranteed.

Well the audio leads I have bought are :

3.5mm male stereo jack to jack audio cable

3.5mm jack to 2 x RCA audio

and neither of them worked at all.
