What are DAC? Does it improve mp4 sound?

Hey all 

 

What are DACs. Does it improve the mp4 sounds. Also what docks are good. I assume any dock can be used with any amp?

a Digital to Analogue Converter does just that it takes a digital STEREO signal and converts it to an Analogue signal to then pass to a stereo input on an amplifier.

 

as MP4 tends to be for video and multi channel sound a DAC will do nothing and it can not handle multi channel sound.
